So I woke up today and figured that I want to introduce my kid to the franchise more properly after she caught few episodes of the current show, being a part of my childhood (the 80s series) and later my youth years (the 2003 series). I am leaning towards the latter, being my favorite adaption. We have watched the 2014 & 2016 movies too but those left much to be desired as a fan of the franchise.

I thought it would be nice to get some opinions though first. Maybe nostalgic posts as well.

I only really have nostalgia for it. I honestly wouldn't watch any of it nowadays.

Oh on my own I probably wouldn't either. It's about doing it together since she liked it.

The original movie might be cool to watch together.

I recently rewatched the first 2 seasons of the original cartoon for the podcast I'm part of. The original is the one I'm most familiar with. I did see a bit of the 2003 series, Turtles Forever which I really enjoyed, and only a couple episodes of the current series which I hear is really good.

I really like the first two 90s films, which are my favorite overall.

I used to watch the first two movies pretty often when I was younger (the third one not as much).

I'd still be down today if someone wanted to watch them.

I only like the original cartoon. was never a fan of the later ones. as for the movies, I really only like the first one. I kinda hated 2. partly cause I was pissed off that they didn't use Bebop and Rocksteady

The original movies were great for their time.

What are your general opinions on the 2003 series?

Never really watched the 2003 series much, nor even the original cartoon. I probably would've liked the original if I ever watched it (honestly can't recall ever seeing it on TV even though I was born in 92), but the 2003 version is what I remember seeing on TV, I just never really watched it unless I was bored with nothing else to do because the only show I really cared about was Pokemon lol.

The first movie is the most accurate as far as personalities go(minus Leonardo somewhat). But all the cartoon mess up Donetello

I thought it was pretty good even though I didn't like some of the changes they made to the "lore".

The more recent one was also pretty good, I watched a couple of episodes.

The 2012 series. It was really awesome and it has the best theme song. It's a shame that it ended up jumping the shark after a few seasons. As soon as the earth blew up and the turtles started traveling through space I knew I had to give up on the show.

80s is best as a non-serious childrens action cartoon.

2003 is really good if you want more serious stories, but they fuck up Shredder.

Never watched the cgi one but heard good things.

Tbh i mostly just rewatch the 90s movies if I watch TMNT at all these days >_>

The original cartoon is the hardest to watch now. I loved it at the time, but it didn't hold up at all. That era definitely had the best toys and games though.

If I had to watch one today, it'd be the Nick version.

Thanks for all the input everyone. Naturally more is still welcome.

I thought the 2003 Shredder was great personally. Was he an Utrom in the original comic?

Oh. Well that's disappointing considering this adaption was supposed to be the faithful one.

By the way, how was the 2003 generally received? All the reviews I read are good but I remember a lot of trashing alongside the praises.

In terms of TV shows, comics, movies, etc., I'd have to go with the 1987 cartoon. Sure, it's not perfect, and it could have had a bit more action, but it still has a great universe and an overall fun tone. I like that style a lot more than when they trying to be too serious or try to be dark and edgy.
