There used to be life all over the universe. but now there is only like 1 planet left that hasn't been corrupted or destroyed by the Burning Legion. it's kinda fucked up, thinking of all that life lost. In a way, it's darker than Diablo. since Diablo is supposedly just one world under siege. as destructive as Diablo is, he is only responsible for a fraction of what the Burning Legion has killed

even more if you count all the historical lore of the world. Azeroth has always known war since the dawn of time. even before humans and orcs existed

digital devil saga

everyone is turned into man eating monsters

and if they refuse to eat the hunger makes them kill anyone close to them at the time

so they have to go kill a stranger or risk losing control and eat someone they care about

This really.
WoW fucked the lore up so much, unsalvageable. Let's be honest though, since around SC2 Blizzard has had a shit writing team so it's probably for the best.

I have high hopes for BlizzCon this year.

I'm at the very least expecting remastered WC3 which I'll pay full price for as long as it includes everything the original did.

And I stopped following Warcraft after Arthas died. Is Sargeras or whoever the final big baddie of the Warcraft universe finally gonna be a raid boss?

If we kill him then can we finally get a WoW reboot without all the hand holding bullshit

Yeah Arthas dying was pretty much when I lost interest, since the other stories were lame by comparison

oh btw, regarding Warcraft 4.....I think it will happen someday. might still be a long ass time from now. but at some point, Blizzard is going to want to update WoW. you can only do so much without just starting over. and the game is like 15 years old now. I think the only reason WoW hasn't had a sequel yet is cause of just how damn popular it is. but it will have to come someday. and I think what will happen is they will make a final expansion that ends on some climactic battle probably against the Void Lords, and then they will make Warcraft 4. it will be set like 100 years later or something. and Warcraft 4 will set up for World of Warcraft 2

Hell, the graphics still hold up well enough.

Won't happen. WoW constantly set the new norm. There's no going back for the general masses.

the current expansion is about fighting him and the Burning Legion directly. but there is still the Void Lords, who are the true threat. Sargeras was created by the Void Lords, in a way. so he is just one of their pawns even if he doesn't realize it

The only reason I am is because Blizzard had a job posting awhile back specifically mentioning Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 and used very similar wording to the job posting they did before the Starcraft remaster was made.

I agree that WC3 still holds up really well. It's got one of those timeless art styles. But a remaster might rejuvenate the community some.

they are the original threat to the universe. And what drove Sargeras crazy. he wasn't always a demon. he was a god or angel or whatever you want to call it. But he discovered the Void Lords and freaked out and decided the only way to save the universe from their corruption was to kill everyone before they could be corrupted. I think he eventually plans to start over with a new universe. but that is hardly comforting to all his victims. the Void Lords are kinda like these pure negative energy beings from another dimension who peek into ours and corrupt it

Well, eww if they do. Definitely cash grab territory then. But I suppose I'm probably wrong.

My ultimate fantasy for them (other than an SC mmo based on massive pvp) would be a re-balancing and scaling of WoW. Too much power creep, reel it back a ton.

the old gods aren't void lords, they are minions of them. the void lords sent the old gods into the physical universe to land on different planets and corrupt them. Azeroth got fucked hard with several of them landing. a void lord has never been fought and i don't think has actually physically been in the physical universe. I am not sure if they even can. they are gods in the truest sense. beings that existed since the beginning of existence. maybe even before the physical universe . think of the Old Gods as like their prophets

and they hate and want to destroy The Light

different universes. Warcraft is about mortal races banding together to make a final stand against evil gods trying to wipe out all life. Starcraft is about the skirmishes of 3 species fighting over living space in a section of the galaxy. I admit I know less about starcraft. the most interesting thing I can tell you about it is that in the manual for the original game, it said that some ancient species seeded life and created the humans, Zerg and Protoss, the three playable races in the game. but I don't think that makes any impact on the games themselves. it's just a bit of lore hidden in the manual that is never even mentioned in the games

It honestly is. Just fighting the same demons over and over and over. I mean, I guess that will stop if they can do something special on Argus or whatever, but then what? Go back to fighting old gods and void lord Jaina?

I mean, it's pretty bad when peace time = getting back to fighting among yourselves with the whole alliance horde nonsense.

I haven't read the book, so my understanding was going off in game statements and WoWwiki...

Though I do agree the setting got a bit more depressing, since from the description thus far, you can never "win" against the void lords, just hope to keep them contained. (A bit similar to the "chaos" in the Warhammer Fantasy world)

Azeroth is a final stand because it's the most powerful one so if the void lords corrupt it it's game over for everyone else.
