Is this legit? Asking for the last six digits of your SSN seems unusual.

It is unusual, but it is also legit.

Or it could be the hackers themselves gathering more info

The former is more likely, though

Probably not the hackers themselves setting it up, but plugging that info in seems like an invitation for it to be stolen too, especially after this breach. I want to find out but I also distrust it. =/

It's probably pretty safe to assume that you were affected by this. As am I, as I just found out.

They already have it, it doesn't matter. Tweet out your ssn at this point, nothing is secure.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-07/three-equifax-executives-sold-stock-before-revealing-cyber-hack

Three Equifax Inc. senior executives sold shares worth almost $1.8 million in the days after the company discovered a security breach that may have compromised information on about 143 million U.S. consumers.

The credit-reporting service said late Thursday in a statement that it discovered the intrusion on July 29. Regulatory filings show that three days later, Chief Financial Officer John Gamble sold shares worth $946,374 and Joseph Loughran, president of U.S. information solutions, exercised options to dispose of stock worth $584,099. Rodolfo Ploder, president of workforce solutions, sold $250,458 of stock on Aug. 2. None of the filings lists the transactions as being part of 10b5-1 pre-scheduled trading plans.

Equifax said in the statement that intruders accessed names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and driver’s-license numbers, as well as credit-card numbers for about 209,000 consumers. The incident ranks among the largest cybersecurity breaches in history.

That's insider trading and they can do time for that like Martha Stewart

From one of our contacts that works security with the bureaus:

"I find it hard to believe that the President of Information Solutions still had not heard of the breach days after it was discovered internally. It's what his job is all about. If he didn't know then Equifax has some severe internal problems that go way beyond the breach and the insider trading. Similar for the CFO - something that is going to have major financial impact on the company, and he should be told immediately. But I would bet they actually did know."

You don't have to have credit cards for your info to be in their system
