Do you need your passport for flying within the United States?

Have you ever been required to present a passport to be allowed to fly from state to another state or to another city within same state?

No, and a lot of Americans don't have valid passports so this wouldn't ever work.

Those are all parts of the USA. Alaska and Hawaii for less time but they are official states.

Alaska and Hawaii are states, so there is no reason to single them out.

This almost happened for Pennsylvania residents. Their IDs would not have been accepted for air travel and entrance into some federal buildings.

alot of americans never leave the country. partly because we feel like we don't need to since we are so big. and it's expensive to travel for americans due to our location. we only have 2 nations that border us, one that is like a boring cousin to us, and one that is a third world dangerous country. anything else requires expensive airfare.

It really isn't anymore. $400 round trip to Europe from the West Coast (cheaper from East) or to Asia isn't bad at all.

some states didn't have their state ids / licenses meet federal guidelines, so they wouldn't work out of the state
I believe most of them have fixed the issues since

No, you need two(?) forms of identification, one of which can be your passport if you wish. Otherwise, no.

America is huge and Europe and Asia is far away. Canada has nothing but the better side of Niagara and Mexico is for Middle class white girls on spring break.

Mexico City.

And Europe and Asia really aren't that far away time-wise or cost-wise anymore.
