that's a good cop out.

being courteous and polite goes a long way too.

I've been polite every time I've been pulled over and never gotten out of one. Was in the car with a girl one time when she got pulled over. She got a warning

considering your posts here i very much doubt you were polite

I make plenty of polite posts here. You just only notice the assholey ones

i think almost all of em are speed traps, i know i've never gotten one that wasn't a speed trap and never when he was just driving around.

but you were on a highway

that's a pretty dangerous place to be speeding considering they can be highly populated

Totally agree with you. I really never knowingly speed. Like I said, the speed change happens pretty fast in this location, and I actually just moved here recently. Totally my b for not reading the sign well.

Not actually a troll attempt, just get annoyed with people who blame everyone else for them not paying attention to the road,

I can see where you're coming from, but never once did I blame anyone but myself

I almost always go 5 over. I think I've only gotten 1 speeding ticket though.

Lmao. I thought about going to court to see if I could get it reduced, but I decided it wasn't worth it. The officer said on the ticket that I was going only 5 miles over when in reality i was going 19 miles over.

If that's your first ever speeding ticket, I can all but guarantee they would have thrown the ticket out completely if you go to court and just own up to it and say you made a mistake and won't do it again. Even if the cop gave you a break.

When I got my ticket, my only option was to mail it in pleading guilty or not guilty. I of course wanted to explain myself and would hope that the judge would let me off or reduce my fine since it was my first time, but I also didn't want to plead not guilty when I very clearly was.

That's common with traffic tickets. There's nothing wrong with pleading "not guilty" in order to request a court appearance, even when you know you're guilty. They won't hold it against you, it's how traffic court is set up.

Most judges and magistrates understand that the defendant is trying to catch a break, and that probably upwards of 90% are as guilty as the day is long. But you won't get a court date without pleading "not guilty"
In California if you plead not guilty you are immediately disqualified from traffic school if you get a guilty verdict. It's how they strongarm you into just paying the fine and walking away. They remind you like 4 or 5 times that if you are found guilty you will get points on your record and you will not be able to perform traffic school instead.

Yeah, but doesn't completing traffic school make it so the ticket doesn't go against your record? If they offered an option like that in Massachusetts I'd probably take it. My goal when fighting tickets is to avoid points on my license, not fines (ideally I'd like to avoid fines, too). The points end up costing more in the long run because points affect your insurance.

What is traffic school?

It's just a quick and simple reminder of the traffic rules. You pay a fee, answer some simple multi choice questions and if you pass the quiz you don't get points on your license and the infraction doesn't affect your insurance rates.

But not all infractions qualify for traffic school and at least here in California you can't take it too often. You have to wait a certain amount of time before you can do it again.

It's a scam to entice you to just pay the fine to avoid risking an increase in insurance rates. Or possibly losing your job since many driver jobs have limit to how many points you can have on your license.

In Maryland or at least Baltimore county where I got my ticket you can go to court without pleading not guilty. When you plead not guilty that means the cop has to go to court. Some people plead not guilty hoping the cop doesn't show up so they get out of the ticket completely.
