Shouldn't that be more of a state government issue? :u I know that sounds cruel, but why should my tax dollars be going to help out states with hurricane troubles if I don't live in a state that gets hurricanes? Isn't that taxation without representation? I'll never need hurricane relief and yet I'm paying for it.

I think it's an issue of resources. The states do handle a tremendous amount of disaster relief, but they can't do it by themselves

If we keep bailing them out though, they'll never learn how to handle disasters on their own. :/

You probably need whatever food that state is providing and it helps the economy to not tank that all states can produce money. Especially since Texas and Florida are in the top 4 with California and NY for highest GDP's in the country.

Because as long as entire cities are taking a bath, they're not contributing any tax income, not to mention their production of food, energy, and other resources that the rest of the country uses. You're not in the EU for Christ's sake, we actually depend on these places.

I'm pretty sure Ohio is entirely self-sufficient when it comes to food and stuff like that. We have lots of farmer's markets.
