Sometimes it's accurate, a lot of times it's not and dumb.

An example of it being accurate: Silent Hill Downpour is a decent survival horror game, but a bad Silent Hill game.

An example I see of it being dumb and wrong: Dark Souls 2 is a good game but a terrible Dark Souls game.

How can it be a decent Silent Hill when your character's backstory changes based on what ending you get, the enemy design is extremely dull and not memorable, largely consisting of just basic human enemies, it doesn't really have an Otherworld in the sense the real Silent Hill games did and is instead forced run set pieces that are loud and overplayed, and is almost entirely devoid of subtly? Soundtrack is another issue.

It fails on a lot of fronts that are pretty integral to Silent Hill's identity. Even Homecoming got the Otherworld right, though it really shit itself amazingly extra-bad by the end.

Yes, very, I've played every one. The franchise belongs to Bethesda now, and for over 10 years they've been making Fallout games.

So do the original games and original creators mean nothing when it comes to deciding what a series is meant to be about?

Because Fallout 3 was Bethesda's start in the series and it was pretty transparently just a reskinned Elder Scrolls game with clumsy Fallout surface-level stuff bolted on.

Hitman Absolution is a pretty good stealth game. But not a good Hitman game.

This is because of how strict the disguise mechanic was. You had to spend most of the game sneaking like a traditional stealth game. Which wouldn't really be a bad thing if it didn't have the traditional Hitman expectations.

Personally i probably find it silly.

I can respect peoples opinions but theres few genres i dont like in some shape or form.


FX I like both Splinter Cell Chaos Theory AND Conviction... but because im fully aware i dont like them for the same reason, i can respect people liking one but not the other.

Understading though... is a different issue...

The stupid thing about Dead Rising (and why it should be heavily criticized) is that they didn't even bother revamping any of the actual combat to justify it. It's still the same brainless stuff. But they stripped away so much stuff that made the series unique.

Like they can't shove in health regen and remove the timer, keep the same combat and somehow expect the game to be compelling. The games combat was designed with those additional limits in mind.

Ironically in their lazy attempt to be accessible the game bombed hard.

How?

From the onset, Fallout was more RPG than shooter or action game.
Even Fallout 3 placed heavy emphasis on the role playing aspect of the game, directly drawing inspiration from the systems in place from Fallout 1.

Fallout NV also had heavy RPG emphasis

But Fallout 4 definitely felt more like an action-shooter than an RPG, even though it has RPG elements. They changed the fundamentals of the game to reflect this.

It definitely works better as an action RPG/action-shooter than full on RPG

Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics
Fallout BOS
Fallout NV
Fallout 3
Fallout 4

Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, and NV all have the same feel and are excellent games.
Fallout BOS is nothing like other fallout games, it was "alright" at best.
Fallout 3 & 4 do not have the same feel of Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, and NV yet they are still good games.

Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 are simply good games, but they are pretty bad as far as fallout games go.
