His weakness is a good developer testing team, but it was too late for that. It's like they never put 2 and 2 together. The way metaknight plays as a CPU he doesn't use any of his most cheap moves like spamming tornado or using his recovery as an offensive knockback. Never spams down smash. They did the same with fox/falco/marth. Those CPU characters never use their moves in quick succession.

Game dev was dominated by Subspace Emissary and character balance wasn't a priority so no real thoughtful playtesting was done

It was a case of the professional fighting game scene doing the playtesting first. It didn't take long to find the advantage of a character who has a recovery option with every single special move and also a million standard jumps.

sure but a lot of stuff was just bad design in general

like removing momentum carrying over into jumps, the ability to fucking cancel hitstun, not to mention all the glitches and busted grab release and chain grab nonsense

it was just a badly designed game in general, and it looked like ass too

If so I haven't heard it. I doubt the programming of one Meta Knight would change simply by having another on there. I do remember something about how who is first or second player having to do with... something or something.
