Things certainly get more complex. And then they get even more complex in Danganronpa 2.

That was basically a tutorial lol. Difficulty controls how tough the mini games are and the number of wrong truth bullets you are given each round.

The 11037 clue was the most insultingly obvious clues in the entire series, I knew who the killer was the second they showed the clue. No other cases in the series have any clues so obvious.

That is the tutorial case, so it's by far the easiest because it was constantly showing you how to use the mechanics, mainly how they only gave you 1 bullet in nonstop debates, that makes it REALLY easy to find contradictions. I don't remember the first game, but I remember the second game gave you more than 4 bullets at all times, including in the first case.

The trials do become harder. There were some (especially in the second game) where they ask you to pick the killer, and I say "I'm supposed to know who it is now?"

The final bullet in the first case of the second game is notorious for being obtuse.

Also, I swear there are times when I immediately spot the contradiction, get it wrong, waste a bunch of time trying other things, read the FAQ only to find the first thing I tried was correct all along and I somehow got it wrong -_-

That one trial in 1 was complete bullshit you know the one where you have like 3 people covering differnet things up simultaneously and the have to be addressed in the exact order the game wants and it is like 2 hours longer than it needs to be because Mokoto cant form a god damn simple two sentence explanation even though everyone already trusts him and you have every piece of evidence you need from the start.

Okay, great. Good to know the game ramps up the complexity later on. I want to spend the class trials figuring out who the killer is, too. Not going in already knowing the culprit.

Also, some things I noticed. If Persona has taught me anything, it is that Japan loves their high school detectives. Therefore, I'm pretty sure Kyoko is supposed to be the Ultimate Detective or something. Also, that 16th spot at the class trial isn't a mistake. There probably is supposed to be a 16th student. Not sure where the game is going with this yet.

Honestly, I think all the cases in the first game were pretty straightforward. The sequel is where the cases start to get more complicated.

I've heard that the number hint in the first trial wasn't translated well from Japanese to English. Apparently in Japan it was something someone could catch on to, but it wasn't nearly as easy to put two and two together, since, you know, the language difference.

I've missed this topic the whole week it's been up, but Danganronpa 1 & 2 were by far my favorite games of 2014. I've been recommending it to anyone with a Vita for a while now.

I think a big part of my love for the game was that I was just getting into the habit of smoking (legally btw) at the time. The graphics, music, and 1st person school exploration really pulled me in at first, but the characters and mysteries were great too. Also, I fucking love Monokuma. Quite possibly one of my favorite villains ever.

The only things I didn't like about 2 were that they changed the exploration to 2D and that the story confused me pretty much from beginning to end.

One thing you should know, though: Ultra Despair Girls (the third-person shooter spin off) fucking sucked. It was a huge chore to play, due partly to the gameplay itself and partly to the Vita's controls. The characters were also pretty shitty compared to the other two games. Unfortunately, the story is relevant to the series and is a bridge between the events of 2 and 3, so it's kind of necessary to play.

Good man. You share so many of my opinions. I probably hold the series slightly higher than you do (second game is one of my top twenty games of all time lol), but at the very least you seem to really like them, as well as that old black and white bastard. And yeah, UDG sucked ass. I was actually hyped for it at first and was so close to getting the collector's edition, but now I'm glad I didn't waste my money. Such a mediocre game, terrible controls, felt lazy at times, among many other problems. Never touching that stain to the series ever again.

Nearly pulled my hair out once I realized it wasn;t nearly as important to the overall plot of the series as I was told.

Clunky controls (+1 for Vita controls), bosses just weren't fun, slow movement, bland looking locales, the Genocider Jill gameplay wanted to be an action game but played terribly, backtracing for secrets wasn't fun, very few cameos, the connections to the overall plot were kind of weak, and I feel UDG is where the story really tanked. Went from ominous and a sense of ambiguity of the first game to basically dumb zombies and little children literally taking over the world. Wasn't a fan of any of it.

I've been avoiding everything V3 related since I finished UDG.

I've kept myself pretty much blind on V3. My only knowledge on it is the demo.

Not done investigating the second murder but here are my thoughts. Chihiro was killed by a male. That much is obvious. I don't think Genocide Jack was the killer. The real killer is just making it look like Genocide Jack would be the killer. Now, if Genocide Jack was among the students, I wouldn't limit it to the guys despite a more masculine name.
