Yeah, it's so hard to justify the money when I know Civ 5 is pretty much still a better game.

It's the first Civ I have played that I would consider to be a bad game. It might be saved by expansions, but as it is now, it is hopelessly behind the times. The new innovation with the buildings is pretty shallow and the CPU is the worst in the entire series. Diplomacy has been completely gutted and you're basically at war with the entire world from turn one. I'd actually rather play Civ 3 than Civ 6, that's how bad it is.

I think the normal cycle is that the previous game is better until all the expansions are released. Civ 5 is still good to time warp with.

Civ 5 was still good even in vanilla. This is just a mess. The only new gameplay aspect they introduced that I thought was pretty neat was the eurekas. Other than that though, blegh. The diplomacy is obviously shit, but even the religion, it's an entire aspect of the game that you can (and should) basically ignore. It is better to just have an opponent found a religion and then take it by force than it is to develop your own.
