yeah I think any data before this was only released by Twitch, and the updates weren't consistent.

When was Twitch Plays Pokemon?

Feb. 2014 <_<

The only thing I can think of is the post-Worlds (Which is the spike in October, and the same spike in 2016) dropoff in professional play (September has a similar drop because it was a dead month that year, with all of the Worlds qualification being done by the first week, and most of it in August), but that doesn't explain why 2016 doesn't have a similar drop.

Professional play is definitely a huge driver for league views though.

games are quicker and more fun to play due to less focus on survival and more on MURDER

By quicker it's important to note that it's because it's match based. Matches don't have a time limit per se, but they periodically restrict the amount of map you're allowed to be in without taking damage to the point that they will inevitably force confrontation.

Also they don't have AI zombies. Even the zombie mode they added has player zombies.

probably. I think the Gamescom tournament helped PUBG a bunch. I do think it'll be neck-and-neck though. PUBG is still growing at a huge rate. it'll likely break 1 million concurrent Steam players in the next week or two. it might break Dota 2's concurrent player record before the end of the year.

Battlegrounds is really fun to play with friends, and I disagree with the twitch thing as well- the top streamers all play very aggressively and try for these very skillful 20+ kill rounds every time, it's actually super entertaining. (If you have the 20ish minutes to watch the whole match.)

yeah, i've never watched top PUBG players stream so i'll concede that point. whenever i watch a PUBG stream it usually goes something like "streamer kills a few players -> streamer hides behind tree -> nothing happens for 20 minutes -> streamer has to leave hiding place because of the area getting smaller -> streamer gets shot."

Yeah watching top streamers never play like that.

I barely even play like that unless the circle position makes staying put for a couple minutes look like a good idea. 20 minutes is a gross exaggeration

A full game to the final circle is about 30 minutes, staying in the same area for more than 5 or 10 minutes is usually not possible, let alone camping in that area

Watch one that has like 10,000 viewers.
