Yes. It's hardly as bad as it's made up to be. "Facial animations" is a shallow reason to hate on it so much.

I suppose so. It's pretty mediocre and long though so be warned. Time is the biggest cost.

works better if you play it more like a Bethesda RPG, in the sense that it's more about wandering off and killing things over roleplaying

No. The game is totally forgettable and it really loses all steam after the first couple hours and you have to force yourself to reach the end.

It's not as good as ME2 or anything, but it's slightly above average, mostly on the strength of its combat.
