That pic doesn't even mention how he's possibly leading the Boltons into a trap

Stannis the Mannis is the rightful king

Why'd they change Asha's name to Yara?

I mean, show Stannis wasn't too bad, less of a badass but had a cooler desperation and religious nut-going on with it.

If Mellisandre ends up doing something worthwhile before the series ends Stannis was really just a tool to move her character forward

The second season is the best because it has the most Stannis

Then in the fifth season they were like "let's completely disgrace this character and just kill him offscreen"

Are you fucking kidding me.

I didn't really like Stannis' character until I saw him on screen, but after he had his daughter killed, that's when the show started losing its gleam, for me.

To avoid confusion with Osha

Which is odd because it's now closer to Arya who is a much more prominent character and last episode my dad got the two names mixed up

They thought people would confuse it with Arya (and not Osha, for some reason)

Anyway, I hate how everyone in the show talks about how reasonable of a person he is, but it only seems to be when he's burning people up that he seems to be in his element.

Also we should have known how they were going to mess Stannis up

His first scene in the show had the dialogue changed to make him more of an asshole

Some more Mannis quotes that may or may not have been in the show, I don't think most of them were though

Stannis ground his teeth. 'It is not my wish to tamper with your rights and traditions. As to royal guidance, Janos, if you mean that I ought to tell your brothers to choose you, have the courage to say so.' That took Lord Janos aback. He smiled uncertainly and began to sweat, but Bowen Marsh beside him said, 'Who better to command the black cloaks than a man who once commanded the gold, sire?' 'Any of you, I would think. Even the cook.'

"I stopped believing in gods the day I saw the Windproud break up across the bay. Any gods so monstrous as to drown my mother and father would never have my worship, I vowed. In King’s Landing, the High Septon would prattle at me of how all justice and goodness flowed from the Seven, but all I ever saw of either was made by men." (ASOS)

"It was the Lord's wrath that slew him," Ser Axell Florent declared. "It was the hand of R'hllor!" "Praise the Lord of Light!" sang out Queen Selyse, a pinched thin hard woman with large ears and a hairy upper lip. "Is the hand of R'hllor spotted and palsied?" asked Stannis. "This sounds more Walder Frey's handiwork than any god's."

"Who is coming? Bolton?"
"Lord Ramsay," Theon hissed. "The son, not the father. You must not let him take him. Roose... Roose is safe within the walls of Winterfell with his fat new wife. Ramsay is coming."
"Ramsay Snow, you mean. The Bastard."
"Never call him that!" Spittle sprayed from Theon's lips. "Ramsay Bolton, not Ramsay Snow, never Snow, never, you have to remember his name, or he will hurt you."
"He is welcome to try. Whatever name he goes by."

"I defeated your uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle, the first time your father crowned himself. I held Storm's End against the power of the Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. I smashed Mance Rayder at the Wall, though he had twenty times my numbers. Tell me, turncloak, what battles has the Bastard of Bolton ever won that I should fear him?"

Ned found it hard to imagine what could frighten Stannis Baratheon, who had once held Storm’s End through a year of siege, surviving on rats & boot leather while the Lords Tyrell & Redwyne sat outside with their hosts, banqueting in sight of his walls.
(bonus: Stannis was 17 at the time of the Siege of Storm's End)

Stannis: I thought the wet nurse was this man Craster’s daughter?
Melisandre: Wife and daughter both, Your Grace. Craster married all his daughters. Gilly’s boy was the fruit of their union.
Stannis: Her own father got this child on her? We are well rid of her, then. I will not suffer such abominations here. This is not King's Landing.

“A sacrifice will prove our faith still burns true, Sire,” Clayton Suggs had told the king. And Godry the Giantslayer said, “The old gods of the north have sent this storm upon us. Only R’hllor can end it. We must give him an unbeliever.”
“Half my army is made up of unbelievers,” Stannis had replied. “I will have no burnings. Pray harder.”

"It may be that we shall lose this battle," the king said grimly. "In Braavos you may hear that I am dead. It may even be true. You shall find my sellswords nonetheless."
The knight hesitated. "Your Grace, if you are dead — "
" — you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt."
Ser Justin put one hand on his sword hilt. "On my honor as a knight, you have my word."

"Bolton has blundered," the king declared. "All he had to do was sit inside his castle whilst we starved. Instead he has sent some portion of his strength forth to give us battle. His knights will be horsed, ours must fight afoot. His men will be well nourished, ours go into battle with empty bellies. It makes no matter. Ser Stupid, Lord Too-Fat, the Bastard, let them come. We hold the ground, and that I mean to turn to our advantage."

“Every man shall reap what he has sown, from the highest lord to the lowest gutter rat. And some will lose more than the tips off their fingers, I promise you. They have made my kingdom bleed, and I do not forget that."

It always was weird to me that book purists obsessed over Stannis when he's inevitably going to die early on in Winds of Winter. The path of the show/book are pretty different at this point but I don't find it very likely that in a universe set with a lot of realism that Stannis makes it out of his current predicament alive.

I think the last segments of his in the show were underwritten (mostly the camp attack thing) but the sense of hopelessness as he charges Ramsay's army is pretty well done.

Beyond that, it's difficult to adapt the character with the same amount of detail as he gets in the books. A good chunk of Stannis' storyline is communicated through Davos, and that marks a problem between a novel where introspection/prose are difficult to translate to a visual medium. This was a serious issue with Jon Snow's storyline for about three seasons.

I don't think he's dying from the Boltons either. I do think he's dying at some point in Winds though. (not that will know anytime soon)

It'll just play out way differently
