It always was weird to me that book purists obsessed over Stannis when he's inevitably going to die early on in Winds of Winter. The path of the show/book are pretty different at this point but I don't find it very likely that in a universe set with a lot of realism that Stannis makes it out of his current predicament alive.

I think the last segments of his in the show were underwritten (mostly the camp attack thing) but the sense of hopelessness as he charges Ramsay's army is pretty well done.

Beyond that, it's difficult to adapt the character with the same amount of detail as he gets in the books. A good chunk of Stannis' storyline is communicated through Davos, and that marks a problem between a novel where introspection/prose are difficult to translate to a visual medium. This was a serious issue with Jon Snow's storyline for about three seasons.
