Certain plans straight up block access to certain apps, and others limit use of those apps.

For AT&T's prices for example, you just can't use Uber unless you pay $500 a month or more.

competition in Mexico is basically who provides the most free service instead of who provides the most reliable or fastest service.

Is that what you want?

All you are paying for is a 256-bit key that says you're allowed to have a certain speed and access certain public addresses.

If you pay for less, you still get a 256-bit key, but it just arbitrarily restricts you further.

5 gigs is a horrifically low amount.

I could burn that in less than a week. On a regular basis after work, my routine is watch Netflix/Hulu and make/eat dinner (1-1.5 hours), then turn on the baseball game (another 3+ hours of live HD streaming) WHILE also playing a video game online (however much data that uses).

If net neutrality dies, I'm fucked.

For you. Hence you have other options. Like paying w/e you currently pay.

I don't use a tablet so I don't need HD when I do stream video on my phone.

I'd rather have net neutrality than not, but that's more about Comcast, Verizon, and the rest giving no reason to trust them. They already took hundreds of millions in government grants and loans that was supposed to be for laying down fiber, than they went meh.

You're fucked with or without because the government allows their regional monopolies

Right. I'm happy with what I pay. $50/month from Comcast is extremely serviceable for my uses. Because there is no data cap.

What happens if neutrality dies and my $50/month becomes $150 to encompass my social media, streaming, and sports habits? Not to mention what will likely include data overage charges.

I Like Toast posted...

Whatever is happening right now, I am not fucked. I am very content with $50/month streaming speeds. If neutrality ends, there's no way in hell I keep these rates.

I guess you idiots needs to learn Spanish. Theyre not restricting access to those sites under certain plans. They're doing what TMobile does in the US with the music streaming thing. The Uber and social media counts towards your data in the cheaper plans and is unlimited in the more expensive plans. TMobile does this with Spotify, Pandora, etc.

America is too fucking big. Australia also has similarly awful Internet. This is why in a lot of games you see people screaming for Oceania servers because the internet is so bad there that many online games are literally just not playable unless the server is closeby.

Our size isn't the problem. While people in extreme rural areas get it even worse, even the population dense areas still get bad service compared to modern countries. Because regional monopolies creates no incentive to improve service or reduce costs.

And Australias problems are also because there is basically one company for the entire country.

Canada is mostly uninhabited. Almost everyone lives near the ass south close to the American border.

It's like Alaska, basically everyone is at the south coast and the north is nothing but tundra and glaciers.

I'm sure if you went all the way North the service would be shit if it existed

No. America is not too big. It is the fact that you have no options and there will never be options with what the current ISPs are doing. New companies can not even being to muscle into their territory, I mean just look at Google, even they failed.

The first post? This picture is for mobile.

Also found some average pricing for Japan.

Just for Japan:

In Japan, the typical Internet speed is higher than the U.S. (8Mbps-50Mbps), and costs $30-60 per month. J:COM, a large cable Internet provider, has cable Internet up to 160Mbps, costs $63 ($0.4 per megabit).
The high-speed Internet market is very competitive in Japan. Customers who pay two dollars more can upgrade from 8Mbps to 12Mbps or even more. For this reason, customers tend to choose higher speed Internet because the marginal costs are low.

In the U.S., the price for cable or DSL (1Mbps-7 Mbps) ranges from roughly $20-45/month. Comcast has higher speed Internet, 15Mbps-50Mbps, and costs $43-$140 per month.

Yeah, this is the whole "channel" package thing people are saying will happen in the US.

You start with your base package which gives you access to "affiliated sites".

Oh you want to visit GameFAQs? You have to purchase the gaming site package for $29.99/month. It lets you access all the major video game sites.
Wikipedia? You need the encyclopedic package for $15.99/month. It gives you access to any wiki type sites, including wikipedia, wikia, and other such sites.
The streaming package for $49.99/month lets you navigate to Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO GO, etc...
