Is Crystal Hot?

Crystal Lowery, an american mother who lives in England with her husband have decided that they are NOT teaching their 5 y/o son to READ and has DEFENDED it!

She has started a heated debate on this after she said she is not teaching their 5 y/o son John, and 4 y/o daughter, Jenna to read and have decided to teach them more "important" things that's left him too busy to pick up a book.

She said "I'm not teaching my 5 y/o how to read. Don't get me wrong, we read books all the time to him. We've imagined ourselves in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory and we're 170 pages into Harry Potter's Chamber of Secrets. We're teaching him to enjoy stories, to get lost in characters. But we're not teaching him now to read. Not just yet. He's too busy learning other things"

They said they'd rather he spend his time doing other things and more important skills such "learning how to be a good sport" by waiting his turn and not gloating when he his a board game against his sister.

Crystal says he's learning how to build by playing with blocks and lego as he examines the physical integrity of the various structures he's made.

He's also learning how to exercise by looking after his dog and how to put away toys. He's learning ecosystems such as bugs, flowers and thunderstorms. He's also learning the key to happiness is to focus his blessings rather than complaining about what he doesn't have. He's also learning how to apologize and overcome hurt feelings and empathize with other kids.

She said he won't enter kindergarten with "advanced reading skills" but he'll know so much more such as making friends and following instructions.

But her post has mixed reactions as some have applauded her while many say it's entirely possible to teach all those things while also teaching him to read.

People believe she's holding her son back by not realizing his potential as reading is a basic life skills.

But Crystal has decided to favour a more European style approach to teaching rather than just phonics.

Is Crystal Hot? let's see what people think

Yep, these are just the actions of a backwards, lazy hick who doesn't want to parent.

i'm pretty sure that there are some fairly big drawbacks to not teaching children to read from a young age
like, they should at least be comfortable with the alphabet by 5 years old and spelling some simple words

have things changed? do most kids know how to read already when they start school? I was a little kid in the 80's and I remember being the only kid in my kindergarten class that could read. even in jr high, I remember people when asked to read for the class, struggling. it always pissed me off. I always felt like the people around me sucked at reading. did the trend reverse?

you learn slower by then. the people who learn to read in school are the kids that in jr high and high school are still struggling when the teacher calls on them to read from a text book

"George.....Washington........crossed the......Del......aware....on Christmas day"

meanwhile a kid who learned to read before they started school reads smooth and quick

On one hand, this is a very intriguing developmental/social experiment. Would like to know how it turns out for the kid's psyche and social life after many years.

On the other hand, what the ****, woman, that's child abuse.
