But vengeance against Spider-Man is so associated with his origin story, not the mention the suit being something of a hand-me-down, that it just seems rather pointless to give Venom an origin independent of Spider-Man. As a fan of that particular story, this is kind of a damned if they do and damned if they don't scenario. If it works, then they don't need Spider-Man. The genre is finally being done justice and delivering quality, entertaining films. They can keep this going for the next 20 years for all I care. The universe of both Marvel and DC is so expansive that this can stay fresh and relevant for a long time, if only DC would get their shit together. I'm annoyed by all of the liberties taken with characters that I know and I'm disappointed that superheroes are kind of a catch-all for everything sci-fi, fantasy, or adventure related.
