Here is a map I've been using that will tell you when and how much of the eclipse you can see. The times are in UTC so just subtract five to get Eastern time.

Along the East coast it will start shortly after noon. Around 1:30 the eclipse will reach maximum. The eclipse will be over by about 3:00.

For CEmen and CEgals on the East coast the best spots will be across South Carolina And Tennessee. I know at least a few CEmen live in the Nashville area and this will be one of the best spots in the entire nation. Keep in mind maximum/totality will only last for a few minutes. So don't miss it.

I'll add more informative or interesting sites if I care to look for them. Feel free to add sites you find that you think will be helpful.

Here is a way to "see" and eclipse I remember when I was a kid. Take a cardboard box. Tape or cut back the flaps on the open side. Hold the open side facing you. Now make a small hole in what would be the top of the box if the open side is facing you. Before the eclipse the sun will shine through the hole leaving a small dot of light on the inside of the box. As the eclipse progresses you will be able to see the coverage phases on the dot of light shining into the box. There may be more to this I am forgetting, haven't done this since I was a kid. At any rate it's easy and fast so try it out.

I was gonna go yolo and just stare at the sun but I did make the box thing. I didn't have any aluminum foil so I used the inside of a chip bag idk if it'll work.

the paper is at the bottom so you can see the eclipse better apparently. No idea what the foil is for so I'm hoping this chip bag will work just as good

I was going to try the inside of the soda can but the bag was a lot easier to tape to the box haha

Because you normally don't look directly at the sun, and actually consciously trying will make it immediately obvious how bright the sun is.
