A depressing amount of us have more sympathy for the officers losing their jobs/good names, than they do for the unarmed black people they kill and the families left to mourn them. You read 'officer kills unarmed black male' and immediately ask what the victim was doing to antagonize the officer. You care only insofar as the conversation is inconvenient and uncomfortable and you want it to go away. You expect more of the potential victims of a shooting than you do of the person with the training and authority to carry and discharge the gun. And you don't advocate or vote for legislation to change any of this. And there's the deflections...

Because it doesn't affect you so you don't have to think about it. Because that officer looks you like and could've been you under different circumstances, and why should he suffer for just one easy mistake. Because accountability means you actually have to do something.

No one is denying that there is at least some racial prejudice, in some cases, when police interact with black people, sometimes. I think most police officers do a perfectly good and fair job at handling situations with people of any race.

If BLM's message is "Sometimes some police officers treat black people with racial prejudice, and that needs to end", then I agree with their message. But BLM has gone out and protested against officers shooting and killing a black person when the shooting was 100% justified, and had absolutely nothing to do with racism. BLM has defended criminals who were only met with lethal force because an officer was defending his own life.

And while not all BLM protesters have taken part in looting, rioting, and violent protest, enough of them have to make their organization look bad. I understand some of them hate violent protest, and even the leaders of BLM have spoken out against violent protest. They just want to protest peacefully. That's the way it should be. Peaceful protest is very effective, there's no need to get violent with it.

Peaceful BLM protesters should break off to form another protest group against violent BLM protesters.

The only consistent evidence for racial profiling is in car searches, but even here the evidence is weak and in most studies, barely significant statistically. There is no convincing evidence for racially biased police violence, and absolutely no evidence that white cops are more likely to use force than cops of other races. Most of the disparity is due to the high crime rates of densely packed cities which black people disproportionately reside in. I'm confidant, based on the research that I have seen, that if the current living environments for blacks and whites were reversed, the racial disparities would also reverse.

What would you call stopping someone's ability to leave an area? Technically it's not legal kidnapping because you could get out of the car and leave but no one's gonna leave their car. I don't know a better word for it.
