I wish they'd hurry up and add spoiler tags it's an extremely easy fix and it's been near the top of feature requests for a year now but it never happens and instead we get emoji reactions :|

But it was "Not-AIM", which is the main reason people used it. It was the hip new messenger. It felt like it was a new "fashion", in a way.

And now people are moving to Discord, probably for similar reasons.

I only used Skype a few times, but the fact that I can bookmark discord in my browser, and treat it like any other social media site, or message board, keeps me coming back every 10 mins.

Plus its largely just used for porn.

It's not even about not improving. They don't have to improve, they just have to stop becoming purposely worse. Every update, the UI of Skpe gets worse. Features get removed. It becomes bulkier and uglier. I'd be okay with things not improving, as long as they stopped getting purposely worse every fucking time

I would still log into all my old chat programs if other people did as well. MSN and Skype kind of merged iirc and no one I chill with even looks at Skype anymore.

I have three people active on AIM and I'm not one hundred percent sure who one of them is and the other is on discord.

So yeah I think discord is kind of shitty still. I was having huge memory issues with it, and my friend (on Mac) had all sorts of issues, mainly a good overlay doesn't exist like Skype's.

IRC was still used well into the mid-2000s.

I dunno why some people are saying Yahoo! and MSN came after AIM... They were all pretty much used at the same time, with AIM having more popularity. But I mean, there's a reason someone made Trillian, which combined all 3 into one messenger (albeit poorly) – it's because all 3 of them were commonly used at the same time.
