Native American situation: Europeans (generations later, Americans) invade and progressively genocide and stomp out native population: Native population fought back where they could, violently so.

Civil War: Confederacy attempted to save its economically lucrative slave trade by splitting from the U.S., caused entire conflict over their perceived right to own people.

I admire the native people's efforts in trying to keep migrating settlers out of their lands. It doesn't change the fact that those settlers and their descendents established a new government and new nation. Honoring the native leaders and other warriors through statues and other monuments is honoring enemy combatants of that new nation, which is now the US. That is a fact. Does that mean their statues should be taken down? I personally don't think so. I prefer to keep history publicly visible, even though there are a bunch of people (even here on CE) who basically said that statues don't mean much since you can just learn history from a book. I guess they changed their mind.

South Carolina pre-emptively seceded before Lincoln was even inaugurated, encouraged other states to join them in rebellion, attacked Fort Sumter (after which Virginia joined in and said no one was going to oppress their slaveholders), and then they refused Lincoln's offer to go back to congress and work things out. So no, the North was not the aggressor in the Civil war.

The north was the aggressor in the Civil War. Both the Native Americans and the South were responding to being attacked on their home soil. In both cases the aggressor wanted rights over the land it was attacking.

But keep mindlessly quoting this.

As a poster asked me earlier this week when I gave an honest answer to the OP instead of shit posting; do you remember where you are posting? ;-)

I've never been to a reservation here in Oklahoma but maybe that's where they are if they exist. I vaguely remember a Native American statue downtown Oklahoma City. And we have a Native American Heritage Museum as well as the Cowboy Heritage Museum as well. So Native Americans are celebrated here in Oklahoma. Now who/what funded these I am ignorant of.

Yet with the Charlottesville neo-Nazis it actually was white people carrying assault weapons. But you didn't call them "threatening" or "impotent losers." You said they "acted civily and had permits."

So the whole "before anyone starts attacking I'll say white people do this too" was just you trying to avoid criticism.

Yikes. Takes quite a stretch to defend this by equivocating with Native American history.

I mean, by nature, we can rely on the right to be leery of the so called slippery slope. But that rhetoric is way overplayed to the point of absurdity like we have here...

What happen if we look at it from the views of the native Americans?
Promises of letting them keep their land were constantly broken by Europeans that created a treasonous slave state.
...it doesnt count because it was native African slaves?
Between 1670 and 1715, more native Americans were exported into slavery through Charles Town than Africans were imported.
Does that mean that we should destroy all statues of George Washington because it represent an offensive time for the native Americans that have been whitewashed into only black slaves were used?

Yes. Yes. What does that have to do with this topic or anything I said in it?

I see a lot of virtue signalling in this thread. A lot of people huffing and puffing about injustices, but no one would actually be willing to remedy the situation. The situation in the US is similar to that in Canada, Australia and a few other places where natives have been marginalized or even removed. Many want to get on top of their moral high horse, but they're not actually doing shit about anything. Aside from that, they're also cherry picking what parts of their arguments they want to be consistent with. You know what I heard and read a lot of, regarding the Civil War statues? Take them down, those guys lost. Take them down, they fought against the Union. Take them down, we can just read about history in a book. Notice how they all apply to the native statues as well? But, like I said, I don't want to take any of these monuments down anyway. But if they are taken down, don't destroy them. Keep them in a museum for people to learn from.
