They have managed to make an engine that does compression ignition (diesel style) on gasoline, along with the option of having it spark controlled during high speed use.

This technology is rated to increase fuel efficiency and power by 20-30% compared to their current, already fuel efficient 4-cylinders, and is slated to be in all their cars in 2019.

I watched a video on YouTube the other day off a Chevy Colorado prototype for he military that uses a hydrogen fuel cell and produces only water. It was really cool

Why arent they focusing on alternative fuel engines? This is cool and all but there's no fuckin excuse in this day and age. Its like investing money in researching new ways to make VCR's.

Yeah man people get killed for shit like that because of the possibility of putting oil barons out of power. Fuck, they'd skin your entire extended family and force feed you their remains for even trying to do this shit.

Why don't they get on making cars without all the damn digital computer panel bs that's not needed, makes the car feel like I'm driving an office desk and is just more shit to break and cost hundreds if not thousands to fix. And stop covering all the engine in plastic coverings! And get rid of those damn wretched blinding led headlights!
Then I'll be impressed. In the meantime they can blow all this other crap out their asses.

Wrong. Cars that use gas will still be the majority of new car sales for a long time.

You have to wonder if Mazda even has the capital to look into alternative fuel engines. In the automotive market, they're just a drop in the bucket and don't command the sales of Honda, Toyota, or even Nissan.

Mazda has always stayed on the cutting edge of ICE technology. They were playing around with Miller cycle engines in the 90s. That's just how they roll.

That's everyone else's job when they are just a intermediate volume manufacturer with limited R&D budget, and they can just partner up with other brands such as the latest Mazda/Toyota EV partnership (they are also licensing hybrid tech from Toyota for other markets).

I'm going to contest the implied claim thst there's a problem with VCR's.

Eh, I don't think it'll be that great. The main limiting factor when compressing gasoline is the octane number. You can control the ignition as much as you want, the max attained pressure won't change.

But we'll see.

I don't know about any of this conspiracy shit, but the reason why hydrogen cars never took off is because you can't drive down to the nearest corner on the street and fill your car up with hydrogen.

That's literally the only reason.

Oil is so entrenched in our economy that it's hard to move off it. While hydrogen is the most abundant element, and people on average live within a few miles of a hydrogen processing facility, almost nobody actually has convenient access to hydrogen in a form that is useable for fuel.

It's a more involved reason than it sounds like, though. Where do you get hydrogen and oxygen to put in stations in the first place? Generally you split it from water, which just reraises the question of how you generate clean energy. It's true that you could do it with hydro or solar, which you can't do with a gasoline car, but realistically it's also going to happen with coal or gas.
