Colin Kaepernick is blackballed from the NFL: Good riddance! Teams have the right to hire/fire whomever they want!/ Not worth the distraction!

It'd be funny if black folks hadn't seen this hypocrisy come from white america time and time again, but, here we are...

How is being fired from your job interfering with free speech?

Free Speech is that you can't be arrested or fined or anything due to expressing anti-Government opinions (now pretty much spread to near all opinions)

A private company can still fire you

If he didn't have free speech the government could of arrested him. He has free speech so he wasn't arrested.

I'm pretty sure when he was hired by Google he agreed to abide by their rules. When he published his rant publicly, Google felt that it went against there rules and fired him. He is still allowed to state his beliefs about female all he wants but businesses are free to decide that they don't want someone with those ideas working for them.

I don't know about others, but him being fired isn't what troubles me

It's the fact that we can't even discuss what was in the memo without being labeled as a sexist if we agree with it. Not saying everyone who disagrees with that point of view labels the other side as sexist...but it sure seems to be a common theme.

I can't fathom how someone can read it and think to themselves "this guy wants to cut all women out of tech" when he literally gives some solutions as to how to better integrate women into tech based on their traits that tend to show up when looking at large distributions.

According to the guy, his memo was something he was working on for a while and had circulated numerous times, getting positive feedback from other employees. I'm guessing it reached the wrong person lately.

However, the truly disgusting part of all of this is the media's handling of it. Stefan goes into how hard it was to find the original, as it was only available as summaries or heavily edited, always represented to be unsourced and uncredited. Everything is sourced in the original, and the blatant misrepresentation done is reprehensible.

Literally every news headline was something like "Google employee writes anti-diversity memo", completely missing the point. And proving the employee right. Disgusting.

Legally, people are correct when they point out that private entities aren't bound by the first amendment (which tends to be what we're talking about when we say free speech.)

However, there are clear and obvious flaws with letting private entities restrict whatever speech they want. For example, this case where a woman claims she was fired for voting for Obama in 2012.
http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2013/02/20/woman-claims-she-was-fired-for-voting-for-obama/
Legal, if true. But also, not great!

I've always supported Kaepernick not standing for the anthem if he didn't feel comfortable. Forced patriotism is not cool.

There's extreme hypocrisy on both the right and left. The right gets called out for it more often, but this Google memo thing is bringing out the worst hypocrisy from the left. Neither side is any better than the other. They're just groups of flawed people.

Eh, a lot of people brag about voting because it gives them this weird sense of superiority. There's nothing noble about voting, even though there's this narrative telling us how important it is. Freedom to choose means freedom to choose not to vote. If you don't think your vote will do any good and don't feel like voting, don't.

Bullshit. Encouraging others not to vote, especially in their local elections, is entirely stupid.

CA had the death penalty on the ballot. He could have advocated ending that.
There were ballot measures in San Jose, where his home was, regarding wages of low income workers and work cutting their hours.

It is not hard to vote you can vote while supporting causes. Him glorifying not voting is a stupid model to set for an already lazy youth population. He should NOT be lauded for it just because you may agree with his other points.

I find it hard to believe in a league where women beaters and murderers play, that Kaepernick is being black balled because of kneeling and NOT because he sucks.

If kaepernick was a top 10 QB he'd have found a team.

I won't deny his political stance isn't seen as baggage, but you can't sit here and say he's black balled when guys like Greg Hardy were given the opportunity to play after their personal issues came about.

sucking+baggage+expensive position=no team wanting you.

I can't fathom how someone can read it and think to themselves "this guy wants to cut all women out of tech" when he literally gives some solutions as to how to better integrate women into tech based on their traits that tend to show up when looking at large distributions.

Not to mention it's been reported that head coaches have wanted to bring this guy in, but have been prevented from doing so by ownerships. You mean to tell me woody Johnson is ok with that dumpster fire of a QB rotation? How about Cleveland? Hell, stats show Kaepernick his been BETTER than flacco and they won't even bring him in
