Part of the goal in kids sports is teaching kids to be respectful, how to behave around others, how to manage success and failure, how to control tempers and deal with stress - in short, all the stuff you take for granted as an adult but you must have learned at some point.

My mother coaches kids tennis. She'll dock points from players for bad behaviour. Shouting, throwing rackets, getting angry - all stuff that's a big deal in kids sports. This is even standard in adult games, so I don't know why you'd be surprised. Bad sportsmanship is bad sportsmanship.

You guys saying "sensitive snowflakes" etc. have no idea what you're talking about. They would have disqualified you for something like this in the 90s too. You can't send the message that acting like this has no consequences to someone in their formative years. And this is a certain level of insidious that needs to be nipped in the bud. Getting hotheaded on the pitch is one thing. Sending out a deliberate "fuck you, losers" is just horrendous.

Letting them get away with disrespecting the hosts like that is like rewarding a dog for pissing on the floor. It's not like they're multi-million dollar athletes who people have to cover for. Take them out of the tournament if they're gonna be that way.

And pinky, you didnt play sports if you truely thought something like this would have dq'd you back in the day. You would have had to apologize for it, but they wouldve given you a warning tops.

Considering we played against a team thar did something like this and all they got was a warning. It just made us want to be them even more and we ended up doing it.

Should they apologize? Of course they should. But this isnt a dq at all and its pathetic that they got dqed for it. Their coach is correct on that observation.

kids can watch pretty much any popular American sport and see much worse behaviors during the games or in the news. Players faking injuries, cursing at each other, cursing at the refs, hitting the refs, stomping on quarterbacks etc. And you hear stories every year about an NFL player who beats his kids/gf or is found with drugs and a gun.

A punishment is normal for behavior like this but cutting them out of their spot is really petty.

Well, so what? Just because some adults throw tantrums doesn't mean we should stop trying to teach decorum to kids playing sports. Actions having consequences is a hugely important lesson that needs to be taught to youngsters, and this was a perfect example. Pinky is spot on.

It is, that doesnt mean they would harshly dq a fucking team for being a bunch of kids

Teams got penalized and warned for being poor sports. We went up against a team in our youth softball tournament that got warned for talking shit to the opposing team and trying to get in their heads. Were they dqd? No. They had to apologize and were warned if it happend again they were gone.

Again, my hs football team beat their rivals on their home field one night. They went and rung a school bell that that schools team rings everytime they beat a team. Extremely poor sportsmanship? Definetely. Were they dqed? Lmao no.

Poor sportsmanship is not a good enough reason to auto dq a team. Kids are going to be kids no matter what. Auto dqs should be saved for cheating and fights. Not this shit.

And yes, i played every sport not including football growing up. In a catholic league no less. Poor sportsmanship was a warning and an apology from the players in question. As long as sports are competitive, youre going to get poor sportsmanship rearing its head as kids grow up. Punishing them with the most severe punishment there is is bullshit.

I played in the hockey, football, cricket, golf, tennis, rugby, swim and athletics teams. But I didn't really need to qualify that did I? This topic isn't about me.

We don't live in the world we lived in back then. Sending out messages on social media is something that doesn't have a direct equivalent to what happened back then. This situation isn't anything like the typical gaming that went on between teams, flipping the bird between each other when the coaches weren't watching or getting aggressive on the pitch.

Just think back and try to equate it. Imagine if after the game you posed for a photoshoot with your team, printed out the pictures, and then stuck them up around school, sent them to all the parents and coaches and the entire community. You really think a simple "don't do that again" would have happened?

That's the world social media has created. People need to be smarter about how they use a tool that can so easily distribute content like that.
