I have to do floor checks once every hour at my little hotel and I thought I heard music so I opened a guys door just to check (staff can open any door to investigate if there is noise/drugs). I simply opened the door and closed it once I realized it wasn't coming from that room. He came out of the room as I checked another and aggressively asked "did you just enter my room" and I told him I was checking for music. A few hours later I went out for a cigarette and some guests were having a chat so I thought I'd join then as I've finished pretty much all of my work.

We chatted for about 5 minutes when this guy comes from his balcony staring like some kind of psycho and then started yelling at me from the balcony saying that I accused him of noise and now it's me and he is going to complain to my boss. I won't be here when my boss finds out but I've left a little note for him telling him what has happened. Just worried because they were chatting about weed before I joined them and I was telling them how much I love busting people for weed so I don't want him saying that I was discussing drugs or something. I don't think he would be able to hear anything but my voice but still, I'm very worried :(

The other guests said they'd vouch we weren't talking about doing drugs or anything. This is the first time I've had a complaint about me and I'm hoping my boss will understand just someone being angry for the sake of it.

It's a hotel, they deal with these sorts of crazy people all the time.
I used to work night audit for a hotel and the management sided with me or understood every single time there was a complaint. It was generally just a lot of head nodding and brushing it off saying "oh these things happen, people are stressed from working and traveling, etc"

It's not a huge deal, and when you explain the situation to your manager (Who, if they're not a shit head, will understand) everything should be clear

It's a hostel, it's not as much you get private rooms as you do a place to stay. The only ones we have to knock are female only rooms.

Yeah, it's the first time anyone will ever have complained about me, I always do my job perfectly and I haven't had a sick day in 5 months. I think I'm just stressing about the drug talk but it's indistinguishable from where he was I think.

Often times when people have music in their rooms late at night they have outside alcohol or drugs so knocking gives them time to get rid of it.

Weed and cigarettes in a hotel room causes tons of damage, leaves smells and generally some gross stuff that has to be disposed of specially. Also depending on laws you have to call the cops and deal with shit, it's a big mess.

I'm not someone who normally has a problem with weed but fucking don't do it in your hotel room if you don't want to get charged for the smoke damage and cleaning costs

I would never call the cops and I usually issue at least two warnings, but yeah it's just a respect thing to me. I wouldn't come into your house and do things you are asked specifically not to do so I don't think you should be able to come into mine and do things I've asked you not to do.

If you have authority to check on things generally, all you really should have to do to justify it is that you thought you heard something suspicious and you were making sure things were alright. Since there was no real ill effects of you looking, there is nothing concrete to base a complaint off of, especially since you were doing what your job dictates.

I don't think you should smoke anything in a non smoking room but weed does not permeate everything like tobacco smoke does.

He said to me once that he doesn't mind when people complain about night staff as I am the only one here and my rule is law.

Oh I didn't accuse him of anything, I just opened the door slightly and closed it. We can open any door because most of them are dorms and only a few are private (private meaning no one else in there, not we aren't allowed to investigate)... this dude had a private room.

i've seen rooms that are reported for smoke smell
the weed smell lingers until the staff de-odorizes and airs the place out

they have to wash all the linens and clean the windows
ceilings get stained brown after one use

when i say all the linens i mean they have to change out the curtains as well as clean the sofas and stuff out

which as you well know, most hotels do not do that on a regular basis. all they do is change sheets and wipe surfaces lol

You don't have a right to privacy in a hostel. Paying for a private room entitles that no one else will be staying in your room, not that we still don't have free reign over the place. If we suspect unsavory activity is going on, we can enter any room. That's not the way I do it, that's just our policy here. Though, I do think you're trying to get me to bite.

I did, waited and then just opened it because I was trying to sort out a noise problem. Obviously that won't make it ok in your eyes, but that's not the way things work here. Most of the rooms are dorms so people come in and out at any time, it was a simple case of my ignorance of not knowing that was a private room at the time. I was just doing my rounds and heard noise, it's what I'm trained to do.

I work 3 nights a week and this had nothing to do with weed. Most of my work can be completed in the first 3 hours of my shift so beside that I kinda just hang on CE and keep the peace here.
