Yes, he is exactly as stupid as he comes across No, he is at least slightly smarter than he comes across View Results Talking to my dad this weekend (who despises Trump) and he thinks Trump does outlandish things to distract. I think Trump is actually just stupid af. Which is it? Seems like an actual smart man wouldn't need distractions in the first place, might actually have gotten the ball rolling on a single policy initiative he's proposed, and wouldn't have hired a team that have resigned or had to be fired within 6 months. On the other hand, the media can spend like a full news day dissecting one tweet, so maybe he's doing stuff that isn't getting reported. If you asked me if someone was smart, I wouldn't usually look at how successful someone was. Sometimes that can be an indicator, but there are plenty of people who are very successful without being smart, because they bring some other talent to the table. In Trump's case, he's probably as smart as the average American. He doesn't seem like he would perform well on any standard metric of intelligence (granted, some of that has to do with his age). As far as his political intelligence is concerned, while he may have the people skills to tap into the fears of the middle class enough to become President, those same skills have not translated well to the actual presidency. It would be one thing if each of these distractions were helping him cover up for bad bills that were being passed or something, but instead the distractions are getting in the way of his policies.
