People go into the military and end up getting 100k+ in college tuition + books + housing when they get out, amongst other VA benefits.

I don't see much of a difference to going in for an operation tbq b. Plus it's not like thousands will be signing up just for that, and they'd still have to be fit enough to make it through basic and technical training before they'd even have a chance at looking into it. Military is hard work, I would know.

If you're capable enough to pass the initial tests - including not depressed, suicidal, or taking active medicine - then I don't care if you do the surgery.

But the issue is in the follow-up and what gets you to that point. I highly doubt anybody is doing the surgery without HRT or will be off it after they're done. Kind of a catch 22 there, the surgery isn't an issue but everything related to it before and after might be.

So it sounds like McConnell's pitch for skinny repeal is "it'll get fixed in conference"

And of course, Ryan's pitch for AHCA was "it'll get fixed in the Senate"

If you're a member of Congress, how dumb do you have to be to honestly think conference will result in a bill that everyone's happy with?

so assuming skinny repeal passes the Senate, what do we think is more likely?

Conference results in:
a) skinny repeal
b) AHCA
c) something BCRA-like

And for each scenario does it pass the House and/or Senate?

Note that the justification for a lot of Senators voting for skinny repeal now will be that they just want to "move the process along." That excuse will be gone for the final vote on whatever comes out of conference, but the pressure to pass anything and not be the person who killed repeal will also be maximized.

while i don't endorse people insulting you for no reason, don't be surprised that after ages of "CALLED IT TOLD YOU SO VINDICATED" people don't immediately accept you when you say you've changed. it's going to take time to get the goodwill of the regulars in this topic.

edit: also, your "i was never the problem" claim makes me think that you haven't changed, or at least not sufficiently. you need to realize you were, at the very least, part of the problem.

Trans people in the military is probably fine by itself, but not in combat roles

I fail to see how specifically being trans would make one unsuited for a combat role. If they have mental issues, then it's the mental issues that's the problem. Not them being trans. Give a cis person and a trans person the exact same brain, and both of them would be unfit for combat if they'd be prone to hesitate/panic/snap.

I'm 100% fine with taxpayers paying for sex reassignment surgery because of the morons who were perfectly willing to waste money on bathroom laws. One serves a purpose, the other is nothing but fearmongering.

As for being surprised about a bunch of Trump supporters being anti-trans... you shouldn't be. Sorry to say, but our president attracts a lot of hateful people. Being different is a crime to them. No I'm not saying every single Trump supporter is like this. Of course that's not the case. But the hate coming from the Republican party right now is clear as day.

And lastly Ulti? Sorry if the board isn't giving you a fair shake, but you've literally been a dick towards people here for years. Proudly at that. You even previously claimed to turn over a new leaf... only to prove that you haven't the moment you got a bit of flak.

I'm really glad you're doing better, and I truly hope that you are being sincere but...

You can't expect most people to trust you again so quickly. You have a bad reputation, it's not going to go away overnight.

The Marine corps study said "women on average are physically inferior, so we're banning all women."

The rational response to this was "You have standards, apply them to everyone. Yes a randomly-selected woman is less likely to pass than a randomly-selected man; so what?"

And that's what they did, and it worked, and it was beautiful.

War is barbaric. Period. A man being on the frontlines shouldn't make a difference between a woman or transgendered. If they can pass the tests, they shouldn't be an issue. If they can't, don't let them. And it wouldn't be because "You're not a man" it will be "Because you didn't pass the test".

If a woman gave the exact same performance as a man, why should there be an issue with the woman being in a combat role?

It is the actual definition of a double standard otherwise.

While it has nothing to do with your question, I like how that woman says in a reply further down that women shouldn't have to be sharing barracks with men just because they say they're women

But then a little bit below that, she agrees with somebody who says women shouldn't be allowed in the military.

"Women should feel safe in the military! Also, women shouldn't be in the military!"
