Besides Jon Snow?

Were the female characters always this overpowered or was it just pandering to the current times?

two of them are now captured, one of which is sure to be executed

their factions are essentially out of the picture

olenna came to lead the reach mainly because everyone else from there is gone.

and littlefinger leads what is arguably the strongest individual faction in westeros proper

Cersei, Daenerys, Euron, Jon, Petyr, White Walkers, Archmaester Whatever, Guy in charge of the Wall, Woman in charge of Dorne

There was that one Targaryen heir in the books with a merc army who was written out of the show.

one thing that is interesting about the mummer's dragon is that he probably went on to gain the support of the reach and dorne

i would not suggest that the night's watch, maesters, or walkers are proper 'factions' though

The female characters were always strong. Cersei has always been the pseudo queen/one in charge. Dany has been queen of that place. And the female greyjoy wants to be queen and it makes sense considering the unfortunate events of theon. And Sansa and Arya aside from Jon snow are like the only ones left. Aside from the other one who's working on becoming a tree I think. Lol. Yeah they've always had strong female characters.

I'm quick to call out things on stupid agendas but not everything is.

the rewriting of the dorne plot to bring the sand snakes center stage was pretty bad though.

Not strong. Incredibly lucky. Especially the Daenerys, it's like, she can do no wrong and people just decide to do as she says for no good reason. Most boring character in the show next to Jon Snow, and all the Starks.
Cersei ftw.

my only complaint about dany is that her fire immunity is used as a literal weapon to seize control over the world's strongest army

that seemed a bit bullshit to me.

The show sort of leaves it out, but the books make it pretty clear that even when Cersei is in power, she's so incompetent that it would be better for everyone if Ser Pounce were king.

i am interested in seeing what happens when sansa is given control of the north

littlefinger is a frustrating figure in all of this--he leads the strongest army in the realm at present but his only clear motivation is to fuck sansa

At this point the best course of action for littlefinger is to go the Theon/Varys/Greyworm route

i think the showrunners have been a little gung-ho about the idea that 'the realm has been ruled by straight white noble born men for long enough, someone else's turn now'

they out-and-out said that in this ep's commentary

even the straight white males of the story are nontraditional: jon is a bastard, littlefinger is an extremely minor lord of poor constitution and little strength

still uncertain whether grey worm lost the whole buck fifty or just the quarters

This lmfao

It's Game of Thrones, women being leaders isn't an abnormal thing at all. Shit, don't the Martells claim to be descended from some queen that led thousands of ships to conquer Dorne? I forgot her name though, tbh

A lot of it is the product of male nobility being targeted and killed first since they initially held power and every one was at war. Meanwhile the female nobility were captured and held as hostage or married off so the men could accumulate more power. The end result is a lot of dead male nobles and living female ones.

The only real issues I've had outside of Dorne being awful in general is the sheer commitment to "it's the women's turn to lead" attitude they topped it off with. And then they gave it to Yara, who is garbage compared to her book counterpart. Glad Euron showed up and put an end to it.
