Also the only reason I'm still living in America is because it's too expensive to leave

There are a lot of countries that are way cheaper to live in. Is it the actual act of leaving that is too expensive?

If you wanna live in Norway as an American, you probably need a residency permit. And for that, you probably need a valid reason to stay, such as job, studies, etc. It could be difficult or even expensive to actually get a job in Norway if you live in the US (interviews etc), and I don't think studies are free for foreigners.

I didn't mean Norway though. Norway is going to be a high cost of living country in general, foreigner or otherwise. He said the only reason he was still living in America was $. As long as he can get out in the first place, he could move somewhere with a lower cost of living if that was really the ONLY reason he was still in America.

Not as rich as you think. Also from what I've read from expats who had lived there, it's incredibly boring.

As if Norway is an exciting place to live.

Pretty exciting. You can experience the city life that's Oslo (and some other great cities and towns), and a lot nature at your disposal

ehh...'city life' in a city with less than 650k people. i am sure there are things to do but someone coming from nyc, chicago, la, houston ect would feel like they are in a village

Those arguments are valid for a whole range of countries, though.

The Oslo Metropolitan Area has a population of about 1.1 million. It's quite similar in size to Portland, Oregon for reference.

And the city has about 650k. It's tiny. A very nice town, and I actually like that size, but it's not really "city life" compared to really big cities.

1. I doubt that Norwegian Americans are doing much worse than Norwegians in Norway income wise.

2. Literally all of the difference in per capita income between the us and Norway can be accounted for with oil exports. It is 20% of their gdp.

3. I live in Colorado which is doing just fine and is a better place to be as a software dev than Norway even if I was fluent in Norwegian.

I'll just guess the tax rates and the cost of living compared to the salary. He probably gets to keep more of what he makes in Colorado.

Because Norway is expensive as fuck to live with a huge tax burden to bear.

They also don't have to pay 50-200 dollars just to see a family doctor, and 100s, if not 1000s more to go to the hospital.

Then why specify "as a software dev"? Do you know how much software devs in Norway make compared to their costs of living?

Pretty much. As a coastal elite, Oslo would probably feel like a backwater to me. Which it is btw.
