Been having it on for background noise and might glance at it from time to time.

I do the same with Racing, Soccer and Golf.

I plan to catch the Home Run Derby and All Star Game though.

Wat? It's like the cheapest sport yo. $100 will buy you a decent racket that will last you forever unless you're super good and play a ton and wear it out. Balls are cheap. Maybe a few lessons would add up but the basics can be learned on your own tbh.

The only thing I've ever done was table tennis.

But I'm only good enough for sparring or fooling around.

I'm just happy that I learned to server from under the table.

Wut? It's one of the cheaper sports really. All you need is a racket (when you start out a simple one is fine), some tennis balls, shoes you can run in, shorts and a T-shirt. Play on a public court and there's no fees for that. Honestly the hardest part of picking up tennis is finding people to play with, but we live in a digital age.

People who don't watch tennis are missing out, it's one of the most tense and interesting 1v1 rivalry sports there is.

I put down lack of American interest at the moment to lack of male tennis stars in the current circuit.

You can say that for just about all sports today.

When was the last time you seen hard defense in the NBA ?

The NFL has gone soft.

In MLB you just have people standing around looking at each other or waiting to hit or catch a ball.

Hell you can see better action at the local Recreation Center or local Civitan Park.

I mean, I'm watching old man Federer drag his feet around the court and weakly hit the ball over the net- and he's still undefeatable. Very poor generation that came after his.

I was thinking more of the old Bad Boy Pistons era. The old days of the thuggery of the Celtics and Lakers that they got away with because they were fan favorites, maybe the early 90's Knicks.

Silly thing to say. Federer isn't so old yet that he's feeble. Also he's an unprecedented genius at the sport. Everyone looks poor next to him. You don't just bowl past a guy like that because he's a little slower than he used to be.

Finally, he's literally defeatable, which is why he's now dropped to 5th.

Helps that he has the poise and perfection to pretty much always hit the ball exactly where he wants to put it, too.

It's really long with a low variance of action. Like it's good for about 20 minutes, but then it just feels repetitive.

IIRC it's best of 3 sets for guys, and each set is best of 6 or 7, and you score 4 times (not including ties/ advantage) to get a point. That's a ton when the action is pretty similar the entire way.

I'm sure there's a bit more to it but I would be considered a casual in every sense to the sport.

It's broken. Between two similarly skilled players, the first to serve is the one that wins. I have the same problem with pool. Whoever breaks first will usually run the table.

Yea when I first started watching pool I never understood the audiences reaction when the starting player missed a shot.

I can understand why people who don't understand tennis don't like to watch it, especially considering the lack of team loyalty. It's like my Japanese wife trying to watch the NFL.

I like some of the players and I have some understanding of how insanely hard it is to play at their level. If that fact goes over your head, it just looks like a ball going back and forth.
