You were getting charged regular check-up rates for something that was more than a regular check-up. Since it is now going through an insurance company, your doctor has to use their normal rate. Personal experience isn't always the best way to determine if something is good or not. For me, Obamacare hasn't caused any issues. Insurance rates have been flat the past several years, no premium increases at all. Adjusted for inflation, the amount I see a doctor say something costs(before the insurance has the cost reduced) is less than what the cost was years ago when I paid cash.
