Kids come in. Excuse me do you have coco powder.

Take them to the aisle where we have the chocolate syrup. No powder just syrup. They call someone tell them we don't have any.

30 seconds later. Phone rings.

Excuse me do you have any coco powder.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize that spending an arbitrary dollar amount at the store put you into a special members program where corporate policy doesn't apply to you.

This is a valid tactic and one I use on vendors that give me shit. Lets get your manager on the phone and calculate how much money we could be spending elsewhere shall we? They usually oblige to whatever I'm wanting.

I would happily hand the phone to them.
That threat didnt work on me when I use to be a manager in retail.

Lmao my worst experience was someone demanding I unlock the pharmacy to get their prescription. I was the shift supervisor so of course all the cashiers directed the angry customers my way. They couldn't comprehend the fact that I didn't have keys to the pharmacy. They threatened legal action as well. She also threatened to break down the gate herself to get her prescription. I had to call a different CVS that had a 24 hour pharmacy and sent the customer there.

I had a similar experience. I just told the woman I dont plan to go to jail for you in so many words.

This is a pretty tame experience with shop assistant, where a sticker on some packaged filleted fish was spelt atrociously, said something like "May t bons" no idea how the writing got so warped on the way to printing, but I asked a person working in the aisle if the fish was likely to contain bones, and they took the quickest glance, and then with a horribly miserable scowl says iirc "Well ofcourse not" then just walked off.

And I'm stood there stunned, thinking it could be an accidentally completely wrong label, and just wondering in general the experience of who does the filleting, as many times I've bought "boneless" fish that I could, and would rather have done a better job of myself.

I get really snarky sometimes when I open up at Costco and someone pulls up to the front of the building to ask me when the store opens.
Like gee, I don't know. Let me check this bigass sign that has our store hours right here ten feet behind me. Hmm. It says 10AM - 6PM. I'd wager a guess that first time up there is when we open, but I could be wrong though.

Well, I suppose it's a bit different when there's tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars at play and plenty of competition for those needs.

Once had a customer who demanded his fries were put down fresh in the oil (Mcdonald's)
Upon arriving at second pick up window, I tell him to please pull to spot one for 2 to 3 minutes for fries to cook
He then demands an apple pie because of this. I say, but sir, you specified that you need your fries cook to order, that's a 3 minute wait.
He goes, yeah but I deserve a pie for waiting.

That really bugged me I don't know why.

That much money was on the line where I worked as well. However I refused to get punked by threats from customers.
If I am going to give into a customers whining its going to be because I dont think its worth caring about atm or I feel like we the store is at fault. Throwing measly threats my way never fazed me though. I happily gaze the number to corporate to the people who wanted it and I never got in trouble.

When I used to manage a store we had the 2 minutes before closing thing happen almost every night. Same assholes too. I just started closing down early and saying that my clock said it was 10 minutes later. They stopped coming

Yes but there are some exclusions. They're on the back.

Relating to this, customer comes in 5 minutes before closing, orders:

"That will be $4.23"
"Come on, your closing soon, can't I just have it?"
"Nope"
"What are you going to do with it? Throw it away? Why not just give it to me?"

Yes I am going to throw it away (pizza), no I'm not going to give it away. I can always say there's cameras, management, normal reasons, but the real reason I learned very early in my fast food career. If you give someone free food at the end of the day, they will NEVER come in the middle of the day and pay, and will ALWAYS be right at your counter, every night, begging for free food. If word gets out that I give away free food at night (and it has before, I had to shut that down), I'll have lines of people asking for free things before closing.

You give a customer an inch, they take a mile. I've given customers a discount because I'm in a good mood that day, and then another day they come, get the same thing, and I don't give them a discount, so they say "but last time you gave it to me for less", and that's the last time they will get a discount. A general rule for me was if any regular, non elderly/veteran person ASKS for a discount, they don't get one. Usually it starts with "come on..." "so can you give me..." "since it's so late...". If you get a discount, it's because I'm feeling nice, or you were a cool customer, but it's my choice. But basically demanding a discount for no reason at all, and getting mad when I don't, nope. And if you keep pushing it after I said no, I'll make sure my coworkers don't give you a discount either, because I know you'll try with them too.

Keep in mind that these discounts are only 10% off, basically nothing, but people will get FURIOUS over that.
