I think there'd have been a small increase in sales. I mean my sister thought it was Wii University, and thought it was just another Wii.

But they needed more games, and actual other controllers so we're not stuck using WiiMotes and Classic Controllers still.

Honestly it's not a bad system. It just doesn't have that many games for it. I ended up getting one for my daughter, and she liked it for what it was. (Mostly a Mario Kart and Mario Maker machine.)

Maybe. If there was less confusion and more people jumped in early on, perhaps it would've led to getting more support and more games, to help it do even better in the long run.

And not just the name, but better advertising in general to make sure people knew the tablet wasn't just an add-on.

No, the name "Wii" was already played out, U was bad because it seemed like a new version but 2 wouldn't have been much better. They needed to distance themselves and avoid the confusion with a new name entirely.

As someone who actually wanted a Wii U (but couldn't really afford it), I doubt the name was why it sold poorly (though I'm sure it didn't help)

It just didn't offer what most people wanted. Simple as that.

It had the exclusives. It even had a lot of non-exclusives, but those never sell on Nintendo systems because of bad DRM and hardware power. It really was a good system for people who like games but there are only so many of those, and they only have so much money.

They should have just made the Tablet optional and released a cheaper version of the Wii U. Some people want it just for Sm4sh, Bayonetta 2, BoTW, Xenoblade X ect but Nintendo was too stubborn about forcing the tablet on people.

It might've helped a little, but Wii U had a ton of problems that led to its bad sales. I put lack of advertising at the top, but it's a lengthy list.

^ this is close to what I really think. I think Wii 2 lends itself to superior marketing approaches but "Wii U" was much more inline with Nintendo's overall philosophy anyway. So much about that system was bad bad bad.
