However the staff is also knowingly packing up before closing time so they are the ones taking in the risk and should accept the possible consequences.

15 minutes isn't that bad. Just be courteous and not a dick when ordering. Especially if you already know what you want and order when you sit down.

It's stuff like coming in at 9:55 when they close at 10 that upsets the staff. They can't start closing the kitchen until your order is done and they can't clean the dining area fully until you leave.

When i worked in a restaurant it happened all the time. As long as i could leave by an hour after close I would be miffed, but not really upset.

I never worked in the food industry but I did something similar in retail. Since I was the manager I kind of got away with it.
You kind of have to when people show up minutes before closing and think they have all the time in the world to shop or lounge. The ones who were already in the store long before closing I rushed out the door. The ones who showed up last minute I lied and told them we were closed already.

I haven't worked in a sit down resturant, but I worked in a pizza place. If people ordered 15 minutes before close, they get the leftovers because I'm not making anything new (side stuff, pizza is always made to order). I'm using rinsed off dirty utensils because my utensils and bowls have already been washed in bleach. I'm rushing the order because I want to go home too. I'm conscious of it, but I hope your not allergic to anything because my coworkers won't care about cross contamination as long as the foods out.

I imagine it's the same at a resturant, if you order late, you get below average food.

I tried all the time to teach my coworkers, and they followed my rules around me (most of the time), but didn't when I wasnt there. When I left, the place went downhill, hard.

Yup, I have 2 friends who have celiac disease, one of which had to return a sandwich at a resturant because the burger was grilled in the same section as a bun. Going to restaurants with them, I know for a fact that most restaurants don't care about cross contamination. They usually don't even understand it. The other celiac friend (different resturant, different time) ordered a salad, it had crutons, so she asked for a new one without crutons. When it came back, she had the waitress confirm with the cooks that it's not the same salad with the crutons picked out. The waitress came back and said that's what they did.

If restaurants don't care in the middle of the day, they'll care less 15 minutes before close, that was my point.

I guess I'm in the minority, but no business should even begin to close until their hours of operation are over. If a restaurant is open from 10 am - 9 pm, I expect you to still be open and serving food until 9 pm. Then, you can clean up and go home.

if a pizza take 30 minutes to make, I'd say the staff can start closing up at 8:31pm if they close at 9. you can't go into a restaurant expecting real food with fast food wait times.

Its a pretty big dick move

When i worked at pizza hut people would wait till 15 mins before we closed to take deliveries. If my delivery time would get too high then i would just stop taking deliveries.

Also you can't really say no but i would let people know we're bout to close so most of the shit you want is either out of stock for the day or put away
