between cutting out certain scenes to squeeze in more commercials, and cutting off the top/bottom of the screen (including any visual gags) to make it fit better in wide-screen, they're doing the show a real disservice

That's pretty bad, the episodes were originally like 21 minutes long. To cut them even shorter would be unwatchable

Comedy Central does that with Futurama re-runs, and it drives me fucking crazy. They cut out entire jokes.

For instance, the classic "What if life were like a videogame" episode, they cut the;

Fry: I know that monkey, his name is donkey!
Professor: Monkeys aren't donkeys, quit messing with my head!

Fucking sacrilege.

I noticed this recently myself. Even back in the day on FOX, they'd cut certain scenes but on FXX they're cutting dialogue off in mid scene! They're cutting so much!!

The weird thing is that when they did all the episodes they didn't make any cuts that I noticed.

No idea why. Get the DVD's totally worth it and you can learn a lot of stuff from the commentaries.

Really? Because when they started releasing them to DVD I read somewhere that they were syndicated versions. Or was it only certain episodes used the syndicated version...

They are definitely not the syndicated episodes. I've heard rumblings of minor changes in the DVDs but the syndicated versions completely cut things out and the DVD versions do not.

Everybody talks about them changing the Scrubs music, but they also cut out jokes when it is on Comedy Central....it annoys the Hell out of me especially when I'm waiting for a Dr. Cox burn on J.D. and then it just goes to commercial.

Mainly just that more commercials air during a show these days. Early Simpson episodes are probably around 24ish minutes long, but on TV today you get about 20-21 minutes of show... plus now shows don't usually have much of an opening or end credits.

Literally just for money. Syndicated episodes of Friends were slightly sped up (making everyone's voices sound higher) to fit in more commercials.

Yup, I've cut broadcast and cable TV out of my life. I watched most of LOST on Netflix and watched the final season as it aired... It was horrible.
