try to get to level 10 or so. doesn't take a lot of effort to get there. the higher the better obviously

I ended up grinding to Lv10 since I get a sizable damage boost at that level. That combined with transience's strategy did the job with only 9 Potions.

for the tower, there's an enemy that you can steal mythril knives from. get 4.

It's like a 40% damage boost from Lv9 to Lv10 due to how the damage formula works. It makes a big difference.

First time I ever got Knight for my first Job.

Makes the early game hilariously easy. I just spammed attack and Magisa died before even summoning Forza.

yeah, you'll be fine. the escape will be a pain but if you fight nakks (you can one shot them with mythril knives) you'll have enough money to rod up.

I did total chaos with fifth job. So far I've got White Mage, Ninja, and Time Mage. A few fights took a long time when I had nothing but White Mages, but nothing's been hard so far.

Due to not grinding but fighting most random encounters, I have a tendency to arrive at the Library with all of my characters at Lv15 (or very late Lv14) in my playthroughs. I wonder if this is common for other players as well.

Honestly, Omega's just the biggest dickbag in the game. You're not killing him without one of maybe 5 classes. That's including Quickleak.

I did a popular fifth job run, and I've got Chemist/Mystic Knight/Black Mage/Red Mage. Second time in a row I've had Black Mage and Mystic Knight on the same team, haha. So I've basically just been blasting everything with black magic for now. Having Red Mage as my earth job is nice, I'll change it out right about when black mages completely outstrip red mages.

Final class is Chemist. Thief, Time Mage, Bard, Chemist. This is the first time I've ever gotten Chemist so I guess it's finally time to find out what it can do.

I used that exact same party, and it was a blast. Bard trivializes most random encounters, while Time Mage and Chemist trivialize bosses. Thief grabs a few goodies and is a good melee attacker with the chicken knife as well.

Omega and Shinryuu are easy pickings as well.

my second run is Black Mage/Geomancer/Bard. Archeoavis's final form is painful since its immune to black magic, songs and gaia. I got there on level 14 and had to grind up a good bit in order for my main gauche to plink him to death. yuck.

Just got to the earth crystal without any serious issues. Since it's natural I've had to keep two of my characters as freelancers but I've been using them to break rods. :3 Hope that doesn't go against the spirit of the rules in any way.

Is there a better way to deal with Atmos with Thief, Time Mage, Bard and Chemist than breaking rods over his head? Rods worked but I'm just wondering if there was something else I was supposed to do.

If you sap his first form to death, you'll skip all others.

Whether or not you can do that depends on which variety of mages you have.

Summoners carried me through forms 1-4, but form 5 was hell. Gaia's Wind Slash does 0 damage, and Summoner's Choco Kick as well. The summoners had to luck out and get Fat Chocobo to deal damage, so my only real source of damage is... Bard and Geomancer moving to the front row and dealing damage with their Main Gauche and Mage Mashers.

Like geez.

Wait what.

I've gotten through Archeoaevis just fine with Chocobo Kick spam before; it's physical and hits the final form's low def, meaning it should manage around 200 damage at that point (give or take depending on your level).

What version of the game are you playing? Wonder if they changed it to magic damage at some point.

I'd probably play iOS myself if I could project it to the TV so that my significant other could watch; I certainly think it looks much nicer (which is apparently a somewhat controversial opinion but yeah I don't actually like FF5o's graphics at all). But yeah it has a bunch of small random mechanical changes and it feels like every year I learn about a few more.

I managed to beat Omega for the first time in a FJF. I locked him down with two characters using Love Song. I lowered Omega's defense twice with Split Shell. After that, I just beat on him 26 times with a Chicken Knife.

Split Shell?

Split Shell is a Chemist skill through Mix. It uses Turtle Shell plus Antidote and cuts the enemy's defense in half so I can actually damage Omega. It might have a different name in a different translation.

I completed my Thief, Time Mage, Bard and Chemist run. I Death Potioned my way past Twin Tania and Necrofobia's barriers. Against Exdeath, I used Life Shield, Giant Drink and Protect Drink to wall myself in while I sang my team to 99 Speed, Strength and Magic. Between the magic lamp, Chicken Knife and broken Thunder Rods, I don't think Neo Exdeath ever attacked me. This team really destroys bosses when it gets going and due to Thief class I barely fought any random encounters starting from around halfway into World 2. I ended the game at Lv29 but I'm pretty sure I could have went a fair bit lower pretty easily.

I beat Shinryuu as well. I used Bacchus' Wine for Berserk and just beat him down with a Chicken Knife while spamming Phoenix Down. When I found time, I lowered Shinryuu's defense with Split Shell and buffed my Chicken Knife user with Dragon Power via Quick + Mix.

This was my first time using Thief. There really isn't a whole lot of things worth stealing. The Genji equipment is probably pretty good but I didn't have anyone to use it. I was mostly just stealing material for Chemist mixing and even that was mostly done halfway into the Cleft of Dimension. Being able to run in dungeons, no back attacks, passages and an Escape command still made Thief pretty useful for support.

This was my first time using Bard. Bard helped a lot with random encounters. Love Song largely meant the enemies just sat around doing nothing. Speed Song let me eventually run circles around bosses.

The was also my first time using Chemist. I never realized just how rare Dark Matter, Turtle Shells and Dragon Fangs were until now. I always felt like I needed to save them so it wasn't really until they became easily farmable in the Cleft of Dimension that I really started using Mix. It was mostly just Death Potions until then. It also kinda felt like most bosses just weren't threatening enough to bother with a Chemist setup. It was mostly just Shinryuu, Omega and Neo Exdeath that I felt it was really worth trying to set up my team with Chemist buffs.

You can actually farm Turtle Shells in World 1 near Karnak.
