Current Events > Im horrible, water spilled into my laptop

I fell asleep, and had a water bottle next to my acer aspire, I meant to put a cap on, but fell asleep..

It spilled, the lid was closed, butit got underneath it. Like an idiot I turned it on, some squares appeared on the screen :( i turned it off immediately.
Blew dried it on the cold setting.
Its on a towel, I had to leave for work.

Maybe I won't touch it for days and it'll be ok, I just bought it a couple months ago and love it.

I'm freaking out.

This. Water won't do anything unless you turn it on. Hopefully your turning it on for a second wasn't enough to cause any damage.

You don't want the water to dry inside the laptop because it will leave behind salts which can cause shorts when you power it on.

You should really open it up to make sure it's dry. It's very easy to find disassembly instructions for most laptop models. Even if you waited a few days there could still be water trapped inside in a way that it wouldn't evaporate for a long time. While it's open you should also wipe down the motherboard with some rubbing alcohol.

There's a good chance it's already fried since you turned it on right after, but as a computer repair guy this is how I would attempt to save it. It would be a good idea to remove the battery and power it on with just the power cable also.
