I was a barista for like 3 years and I still drink coffee so yes.

i consider this issue separate from our factory conditions / treatment of animals while alive, which to my understanding is pretty damn bad and a reason to go vegetarian or vegan itself

however, the brutality of animals killing other animals for sustenance is a rule of physics, not a moral one. it'll happen until the day humans forcibly destroy all ecosystems, replace predation with starvation or completely control animal reproduction

long story short, i'm squeamish and would have trouble at first, but i wouldn't have strong moral qualms about it

but if i could still buy vegetarian stuff from the store? i'm a lazy ass and wouldn't bother

If all I had to do was just "pull the trigger" so to speak, then sure. Now if I had to remove the entrails and cut out the meat myself, I would probably turn vegetarian just to save myself the effort and nausea.

Still I think it would be easier to harvest crops than chop up an animal, plus blood makes me queasy. Then you have to prepare the meat with is harder than preparing vegetables so overall I think veggies still win. But man meat tastes great

To be fair, the equipment to harvest crops for a decent return is also much more expensive than the basic tools needed to butcher an animal. Sure, you can hand tool crops, too, but you're not going to get as much product for your time/effort. So I feel time + money is also something that needs accounted for, besides taste.

I'm reminded of a story my mother brought up about her and her siblings helping my great-grandparents package meat from their own cow.

I feel like if I had to process my own livestock, I could. It'd probably be rough the first time even with a quick way to put them to sleep.
