Nope, it's a stand alone one. It's not directly tied to any of the others by the story,

Your first mistake was expecting continuity in an X-Men movie :p

You don't even need to see the first two Wolverine movies, fortunately.

Okay, thanks.
And that's good because even though I've seen X1-First Class I really don't remember them too well and I didn't feel like watching a bunch of movies just to see Logan.

@Gamer99z

You don't need to, but it is connected to those. You won't be confused by not having seen the others. Other than why is Xavier alive, although I'm not sure that was actually explained in DOFP.

It's not a stand alone. It takes place after DOFP, and it's whole plot is based on the Apocalypse end credits scene.

Not to understand what's happening. You could understand it even if you haven't seen the other two Wolverine movies.

But the full weight of an ending can only be felt if you've seen everything that led up to it, good or bad, major or minor. He's played that part since 2000 over three trilogies.

The character has a major part in DOFP but only a limited part in Apocalypse.

Actually I change my answer. Watch DOFP. It's an excellent movie that has a remarkable ensemble cast with great performances by Hugh, James, and Michael. More importantly the movie actually weighs heavy on the relationship between Logan and Xavier, and arguably the most other than Logan. Watching that beforehand will definitely help Logan be even more emotional.

The quote was only because that post reminded me

Damn. I might just watch the reboot/sequel/holy shit we fucked up with X3/whatever it's called trilogy then. No way I'm gonna do the whole franchise or the other two shitty wolverine movies though.
But I'm really only interested in Logan.

Neither of those things are required for understanding anything in Logan. The story for Logan is entirely contained within the single movie. Just because it has connections to past movies doesn't mean this ones story isn't entirely contained.

Then why nitpick my post if you agree that the others aren't necessary at all? The entirety of the Logan story is contained within the film itself, and stands on its own so much that you can't even tell which timeline it occurs in.

The Wolverine is decent. DOFP is probably my second favorite behind X2.

It wasn't nitpicking. Calling it a stand alone is misleading. It's not a standalone. The story can be relatively self contained, but that doesn't make it a standalone. The story makes references to other films, that alone makes it not be a standalone.
