so 350 calories of garbage food with no nutritional value? for a meal that is supposed to be 1/3rd of your daily caloric intake? sure sounds like a government program/prison to me!

"Garbage" "School lunch"

Redundant

it wasn't redundant until parents were told that they can't send kids with their own food

was that certain schools or all public schools?

most public school....many will give different reasoning, but in the end it boils down too you the parent not knowing whats best for your child, and that the co-parents, the states, does

The real reason is they didn't want kids who had to eat that alpo looking shit be jealous of the kids who packed normal food.

at my cousins school they told his mom that she couldn't be trusted to not pack food that wouldn't have allergens to make others sick.....there is no options of not bringing peanutbutter, there is no option to eat in another room or off property, the ONLY option is eat the Obama school lunch and if you try to sneak in a granola bar or juice box you get a 3 day suspension

yup sounds like state prisons, i mean schools

Also, cafeteria food was not always like that. I went to public school under Bush. It was never five-star restaurant quality, but it wasnt that.

Popular opinion seems to disagree with this

It was always garbage, but occasionally garbage that kids would actually eat, such as rectangle pizza and Jello. All mandatory vegetables and whole-grain everything accomplished was driving up costs and decreasing portions of things kids won't willingly eat anyway.

Looks no worse then any other school lunch. School lunches have always sucked.

No you guys don't get it

These are MICHELLE OBAMA'S SCHOOL LUNCHES

lol....i know you are being facetious, but yeah, these are the Obama lunches

before Michelle's "help" the kids could have brought food from home, bought pizza, fries, poutines, cookies, burgers...all of that....but somebody decided, "thats not healthy....THIS is what you should be eating" and forced the switch out

all these underage b7's screaming "school lunches were never good" either are too young to remember when they were, or are just stay at home shit posters that stopped going to school after grade 9

Oh you mean bringing lunches from home was banned? That's different, that's a bad thing. No I said it thinking bringing lunch from home was still an option.

like i said, it's a school, not a restaurant.

For some kids, school lunch is their only meal. Meaning there's no food at home to be brought in.

Also, I graduated close to a decade ago and we were very explicitly not allowed off campus for food. My senior year, 90% of my class was paddled for doing just that. I imagine with today's overzealous helicopter parents/schools, it's even worse.

It takes a special sort of delusion to have 4 people agree with you in a topic where everyone else is disagreeing, as well as the public at large, and say that YOUR side has more support.

Who do you know irl that defends this politically-charged "health" initiative apart from Michelle Obama and teachers union shills?

When I was in high school we had different things to choose from.

Example of it.
Mon
Fries W/ cheeseburger juice fruit cup and milk
Fries W/ spicy or regular chicken patty
Turkey wrap w/ oranges apples or fruit cup.

Tue
Spaghetti W/ meat balls garlic bread milk juice and fruit cup
Pizza slice W/ fries milk juice and fruit cup
Fries W/ with spicy or regular Chicken nuggets with a ketchup package milknow juice and fruit cup.

Wed
Salibury steak with mash potatoes and gravy milk juice and fruit cup
Fried chicken W/ fries salad and milk or juice cup
Mozzarella sticks with sauce milk juice and fruit cup.

Thu
Nachos with a tostito bag milk juice and a fruit
Long bread subs with juice milk and fruit
Sausage W/fries juice milk and fruit cup

Fri
Grilled Ceasar salad W/ dressing pack juice milk or fruit cup
Penne pasta W/ Garlic bread juice milk and fruit.
Fish sticks W/ fries juice milk and fruit cup

That was more or less what my lunches were like. There was always something to accommodate everyone even tho sometimes we would get nasty food but it wasn't as bad as the pictures posted by op which is entirely prison slop.

We do have a culture of overeating but those portions are not a one size fits all. The students that are growing and physically active are going to need more than that. And the nutritional content of that slop is highly questionable. They're only peddling portion control over quality control because it's cheaper to do so, which means they retain more money in their own pocket.

As is the case with most government programs.
