Remember the unofficial short film “Power/Rangers” that came out in 2015? Well, now the producer of the dark and violent reimagining of the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” Adi Shankar, wants to make the film adaptation of the classic “Mega Man” video game franchise. “I’d love to do a hard-R ‘Mega Man,'” Shankar said in an interview with WWG.

The self-described “massive gamer” is now producing a new animated series for Netflix based on the dark fantasy video game series “Castlevania,” set for release later this year on the streaming giant. “If I’m not a fan of something and I don’t organically understand what is cool about it, then I’m simply not going to get involved,” he said. “Even though I have one foot in the door in Hollywood, I’m not trying to rape and pillage culture for profit. I’m trying to take the things I loved as a kid and bring them to life in an interesting way.”

In all seriousness, can't this dude just make an R-rated movie about a cyborg or something? It's not like Mega Man's characters were the most original to begin with. You had a mad scientist, a good scientist, and the protagonist is practically Astro Boy. Just leave out the gimmick of stealing enemy weapons and you can do whatever you want with the film. Or incorporate it in a subtle way like having the hero rip off an enemy's arm cannon to use against another enemy.

I just have a weird sinking feeling that Capcom might be desperate enough to give this one the go ahead. "Hey, we're adult. Mega Man is edgy and cool."

It would work well with the X or Zero series, tbh.

But I'm not sure what an R-rating would really accomplish except show how fucked up the Mavericks can get and why there's a huge rift between reploids and humans later.

Probably means "fuck you, motherfucker" and limbs getting severed with blood splatters on the wall.

I'd much rather see the Elf Wars plot be made into a CG movie as a prequel to the Zero series (60% of humans and 90% of Reploids are killed during the Elf Wars as a reference to how violent it really was).

I hope he just animates a Megaman movie instead of live action it. There's a problem when you try to take cartoonish 2D series and translate it to reality.

Also, isn't Megaman Zero universe already dark and gritty?

I mean, Megaman Zero even had blood and dismemberment in it.
