Congrats on allowing your dog to die instead of taking it to the vet TC.

This is all your fault.

Do you have one of those mouth syringes? Shoot water in her mouth. A turkey baster or whatever will work too. Just make sure she's hydrated if she's not drinking or eating.

If it's as late as where you are as it is here, take her to the vet in the morning if she is still acting weird.

There are emergency vets that are open super late or 24 hours though. TC just needs to find one nearby.

dawg, it had a stroke or seizure...this happened twice to my yellow lab..once when she was like 10 another time when she was 12....if its struggling to stand up, walk, or get around...acting drunk like you would say, very low motor functioning...call the vet

i couldn't afford a vet, so i just had her take it easy for a few days, no playing..made sure she was well fed and was drinking water, made sure she was going to the bathroom okay and she went back to normal after a couple of days, the first time..i guess i was lucky..the second time she bounced back a bit but was never able to be active again and probably had demtia wondering why her old body couldn't play hard like she used too

She was fine yesterday

Pull on her skin and see if it's loose or it holds the shape of your hand. If it tends to stay the shape that you pulled it up, she's dehydrated. If it's a neurological issue like a stroke or something there's not too much you can do without a vet.

Any more detail on "jerky"? I don't wanna assume with my professional-adjacent opinion that it's a stroke but that sounds like a possibility. Is she a large breed?

She's a pomchi

Every 10 minutes she seems to randomly jerk for a few seconds

Every emergency vet ever will just bill you.

You just don't think your dog's life is worth that much money.

It's true, they don't require payment before treating your dog, they just do it and then bill you.

Hopefully your dog doesn't die and you gotta live knowing that you could've prevented it.

It's only 7 pm where I live

I Googled around it looks like it's vestibular disorder.

How much would that medication cost?

We'd need to know where TC lives. There are like three 24 hour vets in my immediate area, i'd imagine that's the case in most places.

Even if there's one right next door, it sounds like he doesn't want to "waste money" on saving his dog's life.

Speaking from experience/being poor/seeing poor people too poor to afford even the cost of euthanasia, ^this guy is a tool.

Good luck to you and your pup, TC. If you can get to an animal shelter near you they should hopefully have some info on low-cost medical care that they can give you. Of course, low-cost could still mean a couple hundred dollars...

If it's a shelter with a clinic, they might even have the vet look at her and give an educated guess at what's wrong.

OK I'll look into so places nearby thanks

If money wasn't an issue I'd be at a vet right now. But my mom just went and had to return a ps3 controller just so we could afford some food so it unfortunately is an issue.

At the shelter by me the vet will at least come look and give as much of a diagnosis as she can, and let you know the options and possible treatments without charging you anything. Sadly it's where the actual care/medical treatment comes in that they start attaching a dollar amount.

Well that's good. What you described exactly happened to an old dog. It's body basically shut down. We had to take it to the vet and put it down so it wouldn't suffer
