I think there's a Korean LN called... Overlord? something like that that I heard was pretty good. Maybe I should give it a try. Some redditors recommends it besides Mushoku Tensei and one other title that I really liked, so I know it's bound to be something I'll like

Welp, I got to try out Breath of the Wild today. Didn't get to do much, but I liked what I played.
Having an open world game with almost no objective markers is pretty refreshing. Gives an impression of the first Zelda game, minus the way too subtle hints.
Shield surfing is really fun to mess around with, and there's tons of disposable shield lying around.
The frequency of weapons breaking remind me of that one fight scene from the Korean comic Ares. Doesn't disturb me that much, but I can understand the people who complain about this.
Oh, and the chickens. They can be used as a glider. Limited utility, but it's freaking awesome.

And with Japan getting a port of the Seiken Densetsu (Mana) trilogy, I'll definitely be getting a Switch down the line.

Actually, the hints get really subtle sometimes XD. You have to really think about some of the riddles and stuff like that. Shield surfing is fun. Later in the game, they tell you that sand and snow don't affect the shield durability.

Weapon durability is such a non-issue for me because I'm always running out of inventory space -_-.

I also like using the chicken. I'm pretty sure it doesn't use stam, so it's actually a better way to travel than the glider sometimes.

And yes, this is the most free game ever. You literally don't have any true objective.

This LN is not bad. It's a daughteru story and I think... I haven't read it enough to know, but from what I've heard... some people may even find it... "Usagi Drop-esque" If you don't know what that means, it's totally normal.

But otherwise, the first several chapters are very feel good slice of life stories. A hero that saved the world finds a new stage in his life by adopting a horned daughter who lost her parents. I think you can definitely see a few things coming from that alone

well ultimately the anime adaptations for light novels are usually made to advertise the source material. So giving them a concrete ending is unnecessary and maybe even counterproductive?

Well I guess I'm talking endings in general. Not everybody's gonna read the LN to finish off where the anime left off anyways.

One thing I do love about LN/WNs in general is that they do eventually reach an ending, and WNs especially don't ever get cancelled or anything like that.

Meanwhile, I can watch an anime or a manga, based on something or not, and I may never end up knowing how it ends, or the way it ends is so crappy that it ruins the story for me or many crucial plot points never get a conclusion. I just hate it.

Well, I would say that the one on right is the fan translation.
The writing style is more simple, and there's that wild "Hai" out of nowhere.
And I guess changing Chapter 1 to Prologue wouldn't make sense for an official release.

When it comes down to it, seems like most LN readers don't really care at all about translation quality as long as they get their stuff fast and for free. Which is why so many of the translations are done by people with absolutely no idea what they're doing. Kinda sucks :/

I can appreciate the good machine translators though. Popular ones like Tate no Yuusha or Mushoku both have terrific machine translated parts.

But yeah I mean, it has to be a work of passion for it to be any good

I could see the fan translation being more literal though, except for that Hellsing Abridged (?) reference. Do you have the raw for this?

I fell that it's the same case as my translation of MH. I try to be as literal as possible, so the writing style is pretty simple.

Thanks. I skimmed it, and it seems that the fan translation is pretty much spot-on, except for God not retaining his "Old Man" accent. Much more literal compared to the official release, assuming that the official also uses the WN as base. The paragraph structure in the fan translation is also exactly the same as the WN.

Might account for why one's called Chapter 1 and one's called Prologue. Chances are, the official is based off of LN and the fan translation is based off of WN. Authors do actually rewrite pretty much the whole story, changing structures and such to make the flow better etc.

WNs tend to have really loose format, and authors tend to joke around more. LNs are actually sold to places and tend to be more professional

Chapter 1 has indeed been changed to Prologue, but the contents are mostly exactly the same.
The LN revised a sentence or two and added an illustration, but other that that there's no change.

Judging from the chapter names, the fan translation is indeed based on the WN version.

It just reads so poorly though. Like they just put all their effort into translating meaning and don't realize that someone actually has to read it too

There's one thing I realized from WN/LNs recently that made me bored of a several series.

When the series goes fucking overboard with their cooking montages. It's just super boring and adds very little to the lore and the story and the characters. Also, the tastes are totally lost on me since the ingredients they use could freaking taste like anything. It's not immersive. And since there aren't that much descriptive passages in WN/LNs in general, even doubly so.

Death March does it to the fucking extreme. Uchi no Musume... does it to some extent.

I find myself just skimming past those bits and found that I missed out on practically nothing

Cooking montages? Is that a new trend or something? I don't think I've ever encountered those in the LNs I read.

A lot of them actually have cooking montages. Like even in Tate no Yuusha, Naofumi has a bunch of plot points about how he's a great cook. Unlike some LNs, it doesn't dwell in it or keep pushing that side of him though. Mushoku Tensei has like a full side story about one of the characters going on a food tour, but that one isn't translated.

The concept of eating in general takes a pretty big part in these types of stories. There are plenty of stories about how the MC eats in order to get super OP, like Re:Monster, Arifureta and similar shit that knocks off each other. Ironically, I think those end up being the least about cooking

Like, Toradora doesn't focus on the food abd cooking process at all even though Ryuji's cooking and eating in general is pretty important.
Log Horizon has Nyanta's cooking and the burgers Volume 2, but they last only a few sentences as opposed to the anime where it got one whole episode.

Yeah Log Horizon did have a small cooking saga, but that was very story relevant and doesn't stick around for the rest of the series. Some series just go overboard, like the 2 series I'm currently reading.

It used to be licensed in my country, but the publisher went under halfway through and no one picked it up. It's more or less exactly the same as the anime though.

Oh are there not that many like extra details and whatnot? Cuz I enjoyed it, but I felt I enjoyed the 2nd half the most when plot was advancing at the speed of sound

I think I read somewhere that the LN does provide better details for the final story arc.
I only got as far as volume 5 though, and I remember some of Kushieda's comedy routine being a bit more heavy, but that's pretty much it.
