That kind of scenario would be classified as an erotic novel rather than a light novel. Just saying.
On a different note, my order arrived and I finished MH volume 2. The story is more personal this time around, compared to the first book, which was mostly about MH world's lore and a bit about the MC. The hunting scenarios are more intense and varied, which is a big plus. The new character might in fact be MH1's player character, considering some her past exploits and a certain weapon she owns. She's also given a pretty extensive backstory. Quite a bit more than the main party, actually. The author's notes section is pretty entertaining too, especially the part where he complains about the mandatory online for guild quests, and wishes there's a MH1.5 that gives access to guild quests when offline (and he never got it, since MHG still requires online for guild quests). He's also apparently a big fan of the comic book Nightmares & Fairy Tales. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Slightly off-topic, but I just saw the short clip of the Monster Hunter movie. It's... quite depressing that it's gonna be the first mainstream adaptation that is released in the west (assuming the clip is real, that is). Especially when there are way more faithful MH adaptations out there in the form of manga and novels, and only Orage (just ok), Flash Hunter manga (good), and Ride On (bad CGI but otherwise enjoyable) were the only ones that were(/will be) released in the west.
I won't judge the quality of the movie just yet, but it's Anderson, so I don't have much faith. On topic - I finished book 3 and read two chapters of book 4. Book 3 is the weakest book out of the first three, but it really shows how much the MC has matured from the events of the first two books. The new characters are also pretty cool. Book 4 is more like an epilogue story, where the main cast gather in a bar to party and tell stories of their most memorable hunt, that kind of stuff. ... Copied to Clipboard!

He really contradicts what he said. At first he praised the world building of MH and the potential to create a cinematic universe that has multiple stories of completely different groups of people, and then he makes the movie a "monsters coming to the real world" thing which doesn't have a lot of potential for side stories on top of being completely out of place in general.
Given how much MH emphasizes the importance of coexisting with nature and monsters being an essential part of the ecosystem, it just feels... wrong. ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's very easy to read. I've been through some seriously bad grammar, and man, yours is a very fresh air.
Yeah there was always something odd about towns only having ways to repel the monster. I dunno if the older MHs had the likes of Dragonator though, which most definitely should kill things. Not to mention the concept of repelling is kinda dumb, since we basically get the mission to kill whatever was repelled a few moments later. What changed? It's only Ch. 1, so obviously there's not too much craziness yet, but I love the world build up already. It made me realize that the Monster Hunter's singleplayers could be a LOT better. Rather than usually only having one big overarching plot, and killing monsters is all to figure out how to solve that one thing, there could be more character developments like there already is in this chapter, and your own character could have a characterization that works despite the game's classical RPG approach. If not that, just develop more likeable side characters. The games always have had a lot of interesting looking and generally recognizable side characters, but they are never developed at least to the point of actually being able to call them characters. A guild that specializes on hunting Yian Kut-Ku (and even a small nod to the speedrun hunting community I think) is simple but already more interesting than the generic guild that only does generic guild things for the sake of the story. You should try to contact baka tsuki or some host site somewhere and publish these, maybe even earn some small ad bucks as a bonus :P. --- "Iwata was awesome" - Mr. Nintendo User below me likes animals inferior to lemurs. ... There's the problem with the range of choices, too. Either the translations didn't make it that far or is dead, which I hate cuz I would wanna know what happens next, or there aren't enough out there. I also dropped a bunch of ones that simply weren't that good. Usually the ones with a lot of chapters are pretty decent, since they actually need to be able to carry an audience to continue presumably. But yeah it's hard to find the right one, unless I learn to read Japanese

Holy crap, a gold mine of translations here. They have a lot of Korean stuff, but to be frank, I don't always like the Korean style of writing. Very different values and all, and there's a reason why I refuse to work with Koreans, despite being one myself. But if there are ones heavily influenced by Japanese LNs, might be worth my while. They're a little less shy about sexuality, too, so perhaps... yeah it would do me well to explore. Also, good translation so far. They actually sort of try to explain why some monsters get stronger as you rise through the ranks. Makes me wonder how carting works in the older games though. Wow, I found a good manga, but it's based off of a LN supposedly.
Konjiki no Moji Tsukai Yuusha Yonin ni Makikomareta Unique Cheat It really knows how to write characters first off, and the world is pretty interesting. It also does the Tate no Yuusha/Arifureta thing where there's a hero party and the main character's party that pretty much completely overshadows them. MC's powers are a bit overpowered, but they make it up by pitting him against people much stronger than him. There's also an implied restriction, but they haven't gone over that yet. It's good. I understand that the author probably wants to push stronger battles faster, since this doesn't seem like one of those 100+ ch series. I was certainly expecting a slower grind up, since Monster Hunter for me is more of a "start from the bottom of the barrel" type of series.
