Board 8 > Why isn't the Ultima series popular on this board (and site?)

It always struck me as odd that one of the three biggest and most respected RPG series of all time gets no attention here or anywhere else on this site.

What is it about these games that makes them so unpopular in our "circle"? Too PC-centric?

I loved them as a kid, but I went back recently and tried to play some of the early ones and.....they have not aged well :\

If it's older than the 5th Gen consoles, and it wasn't on the NES/SNES/Genesis/Game Boy, it's pretty much SOL here.

(and yes I realize that Ultima was on the NES)

Blizzard has always been the semi-exception for PC gaming popularity here, especially in the pre-Steam days.

That's not true! Didn't he say VII was his favorite?

The gist of his retrospective is that 1-7 are varying degrees of awesome, 8 is terrible, and 9 is an abomination unto existence.

I thought 5 was, but it might have been 7.

He also didn't like 6 that much, but he still had praise for it and admits that it's at least somewhat personal preference. Otherwise you are correct.

My favorite was four. After that, VI. Haven't played VII and up though.
