If teleportation existed think of how much drunk driving would cease? Omfg.

Why would anyone use cars.

Granted, it is fun to drive every once in awhile, but 99% of the time I think most people would just teleport.

I've always been a bit wary of the idea of teleportation. The idea, correct me if I'm wrong, is that if you're destroyed and then a copy of you is made on the other end. But then doesn't that mean that you're dead? Sure, the copy will have all your memories and personalities and everything, but it will not be the original, made from the same cells. You have ceased to be and been replaced with a copy.

And that worries me.

Teleportation is cool and I would definably use it when I know the destination that I am going to

But if I just moved to a new house, or on tour in another country, I would still need a car to scout out where the nearest steakhouses, and 7-elevens are. Besides I liked driving. Also, can the teleportation device be used when I am holding something like a BBQ grill? Maybe I can put the teleportation device in the trunk and then teleport my car with myself, that would be better than just teleportation

Teleportation the star-trek way is destroying you, and building a new copy of you. The technology could just as easily be used to make a copy of you at a location.

If that's what we're talking about, then no. I would never do that. The moment I did, I would die.

If it's something like portal, then yes. Gates like that would be fantastically useful.

So wait, you're saying that you are cells?

Well you're far more at risk right now, where trillions of your cells are dying and getting replaced. Within one year, none of the same atoms you're composed of now will remain. Wouldn't your anti teleportation preference also a strong desire to invent a time stopping device so that none of your cells are replaced?

Not a chance. I'd love teleporting everywhere. Could go to any restaurant/store around the world anytime, live where I wanted without caring about what else is near, never use a public restroom again, hang out with any friend no matter where they've moved, etc. I'm not a huge fan of driving either.

Do you guys hate roller coasters also?

That being said, no I wouldn't drive as much because teleporting to work would save me time and possibly money (how expensive is teleportation?). Driving would become a leisure activity for me.

I definitely wouldn't drive as often, but I would still drive from time to time. Teleportation would be convenient, especially for errands or commute to work, but I think there's something to be said for the sense of journey I get from driving to new destinations, or just driving in general. That's the largest part of why I enjoy driving.

With fewer people on the road, that would drastically cut down on traffic, which would allow me to enjoy that element of driving that I appreciate.

Well, that's what we are. The difference is that in the natural flow of time, the cells are dying and being replaced gradually at such a rate that it is unnoticeable. In the case of teleportation (at least in the Star Trek way), all of your cells are destroyed at once and then copied. You would die and an exact copy would take your place on the other end with all your memories and personality and who believes they are the original.

To the outside world, your existence would continue as normal through the teleported copy, but the original you is dead and gone.

I suppose you could argue against this if you believe in souls, but, well, I don't.
