What inspired him to work hard at it anyway? What gave him the strength to work hard, and what made it so he didn't happen to just outright suck at playing a musical instrument? Hell, what made it so he wasn't born into poverty and actually able to own a musical instrument?

Call it God, fall it fate, call it fortune, call it whatever, he didn't get where he was solely on his own.

Well, he didn't say that. He said god didn't give him his musical ability. through some genetic luck or some event that may have inspired him, he was drawn to music, and he worked hard and became good. I don't see why he shouldn't be proud that he worked hard for his ability.

Innate talent is hardly earned. No matter how much I practiced with an instrument, I could hardly equal any of the greats. I am just not talented in the area of music.

He didn't work hard to be given an innate talent. He didn't work hard to not be born retarded. Whether you attribute that to God or nature, it's still not something he can feel accomplished about. He can be proud of his work, but to say that he's the only one responsible for his success is bulls***.

What? Uh, of course a basketball coach helps you get better at basketball. That analogy is turrible. He didn't say he got where he is today all by himself. He didn't say everything great is done through him. he said god didn't make him good at playing, that practice and hard work did.

It's silly that he's getting so offended, but the coach analogy assumes that God has an equally active role in peoples lives as a person who directly tells the players what to do all the time. That makes it a ****ing terrible analogy

I'm not saying it's the same, just trying to make the point that someone or something attributed to his success, and he's trying to take all the credit for himself. There's so many little things that led him to where he is, and to get offended because someone says your blessed is just ridiculous.

If you don't believe in God just thank them for basically saying you're good at what you do, instead of being an ungrateful piece of crap and making a big deal out of it.

And that's what I'm talking about. The man himself worked hard for his ability, but something drew him to it in the first place. And as Bartz said he didn't do anything about being born with an inate talent, or not being boring with a mental problem.

Yes, there is such a thing as a gift, some people are just very good at something for no clear reason at all. Most people call it "natural talent". They didn't have to practice at something to be good at it, that's not how things usually work.

But seriously, he has no reason to be offended by this. No one gets anywhere in life by themself, all of us are influence by God/fate/luck in some way. Unless you're telling me he planned to walk down the path he walked when he was born, someone other than him played a hand in it.

Alternatively, he could be mistaking "God has blessed you with a musical talent" with "God is the only reason you're good at this, don't be proud" as opposed to the actual meaning.

He didn't work hard to be given an innate talent.

Music is not an 'innate talent', it is actually something you have to simply practice for years. If there's one thing that needs to die it's the idea that there's some kind of magic involved in musical talent that ordinary folks can't tap into - the dexterity is learned and the understanding is learned. The drive is internal. Anyone can do it.

Sure, but I'd say not everyone does it as fast or efficiently which is basically the whole point of discussion to be honest.

Example: There are people who can sing amazingly without ever having vocal practice.

I would call that talent, even if it is just because they're biologically lucky to have a good diaphragm and what not. Some people just have an advantage over others musically really. But I do agree that with drive anyone (physically and mentally capable to learn and play music) can do it!

Difference in quality of effort you did put in. 30 minutes of actual studying is more important than 5 hours of studying with the TV on while texting every few minutes which is what the average high school student calls studying. Then there is also the fact that most kids don't actually pay any attention or do any work in class. If you actually pay attention to lectures and then use all the free time teachers tend to give you in high school you should almost never have to do anything at home.

1. You have free will
2. Typically the Devil is responsible for negative aspects.

But yeah, I haven't read The Bible in far too long so don't look at me for answers.

But you do have free will, so the responsiblity for your decisions, be they bad or good, falls upon you. Just saying something may have played a factor in what caused that situation to happen in the first place.
