The contrast between how much money this project has and the project we were arguing about last week should really open the eyes of the people that were arguing against me. I'm not familiar with America's laws... Is there no punishment whatsoever for falsely accusing someone of a crime? I'm not talking about rape here, I mean anything. If you accuse someone of theft , assault, vandalism or... murder, and then admit that you made a false claim, is there always no punishment for the accuser?

I'm pretty sure there is no criminal punishment, but you can sue them for hurting your reputation, which requires getting a lawyer and all this expensive stuff.

Ahh. So it really has nothing to do with men, women, feminists and rape at all then. The law should just be changed for that particular crime, which would have effects on all other forms of crime. Even then, I don't see how this would change much if anything at all. People could still falsely accuse others of crime... they would just have to be more careful in not admitting to it after the crime.

In lieu of arguing with and destroying the brainwashed feminists that dwell on this board any more, I'm just going to implore you guys to donate to this.

False rape accusations are a serious problem, they ruin lives and perhaps even worse they damage the credibility of actual rape victims.

That Brian Banks is getting another chance at his life is an utter miracle, but there are so many other cases where guys don't get this chance. We need to bring this problem to light, and hopefully the more attention Brian Banks is given, thought will be given to changing things so that laws are fixed and false rape accusers are given serious jail time.

They are both important causes and I hope that Sarkeesian is able to use those funds to surround herself with the right people so that she is actually able to get her point across in a way that will cause people to see that there still is a problem with how females are portrayed in media.

As mentioned before, I think the Banks case has more to do with the law in general than it does about rape or people's rights. Nobody should be able to get away with that kind of malice without serious repercussions.

We live in a society that needs a slap in the face when it comes to this type of thing, and movies are known to be catalysts of social reform, at least in some instances. Plenty of documentaries of radically changed public opinion. I could argue all day about how I think that society's perception of rape, treatment of those accused of rape, and protectiveness of anyone who may or may not be a rape victim are all sucky right now, but I don't feel like getting modded for posting my honest opinions.

As for the comparison to Sarkeesian, it's unfortunate that these kickstarters came to our attention around the same time. But you simply cannot argue that race and/or gender has nothing to do with this.
