I remember a topic like this about cellphones, I forget how much cash I went for.

Hmmm, here I'll go with 3 million.

I literally couldn't do it because the vast majority of my classwork is posted online.

For work, well you could go a year without work if you're doing it for some crazy money price.

You could still do it.

Hard to answer. However much a year of my life is worth since it would almost certainly put me behind a year in everything (graduation, thus starting a career).

Well, seeing as it would make me completely unable to do my research and thus earn my PhD, and therefore disrupt my entire future plan for life, I'm gonna go with infinity monies.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just ask for the amount of money that you could make in your lifetime from earning the PhD? Therefore, there would be no more reason for a PhD.

Just for one year?

If I can choose when it starts, I'll do it for $100,000 and spend a month or so preparing.

If it has to be done like RIGHT NOW then $150,000.

I would not be able to work for the whole year, which puts me at instantly around $100,000 when you factor in salary + benefits.

Then to combat boredom... at least $1,000,000

Probably 10,000 or so. I wouldn't be surprised at myself for saying yes to 6 or 7 thousand though.

I think people are kind of over-valuing the entertainment value of the internet.

Yes, it immensely streamlines entertainment, but the amount of stuff that's inherent to it isn't so great that you should turn down $900,000 just to abandon it for a year.

20 years from now when physical media is dead then sure, but as of today you can still get a physical copy of pretty much any game or TV show or movie.

well i'll still have plenty of games. and phones.

but finding social gatherings will be near impossible. that's all online.
paying my credit card bills will go to phone or snail mail, which both suck. will have to manually go to all the ads, find all the deals myself that are live. hell, even THAT will be near impossible as all those are online. of course with enough money this won't matter.
work will be impossible. but again, no money, can do. can become a day trader and be a guy at wall street. no internet but doable with a phone. ...actually if i can hire an internet person for me that'd be an easy task. they do the online stuff.

but still, start at 5 mil.

Being in school no internet basically means I'm out of classes for the entire year. I'd probably have to be given at least 1,000,000 for this to be worth it.
