You know what? Turns out that shmups might actually be closer on the SNES/Genesis than I realized. I didn't know that the Genesis lacks a version of UN Squadron, for example, and the Super Nintendo has three versions of Parodius. Neat! There's also R-Type III/Gradius 3/all the other games that get commonly thrown out there. Suffice to say that while the Genesis still wins here, I'm not sure it's fair to make the analogy that SNES: Shmups :: Genesis : RPGs
